I am getting ready to have a driveline made for my luv, and I have used the search portion of the web site to find an anwser to my question to no avail. After talking to several people who have v8 luvs, they told me that the stock rearend will hold up well. They said they tride to blow them up, but so far no problems. I never thought to ask them how they did the u-joint on the rear end. Has anyone found another yoke that will work on the luv rear end, that will hook up to bigger universal joint. Or are you just having a driveline built that uses the same luv u-joint on the rear end. I am afraid this small u-joint will not stand up to the extra horse power. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I read in the past files, several of you have put a lot of extra horsepower in front of the stock rearend with no problems, but changed to a Ford 9 inch rearend anyway. The nice thing about this site is someone seems to always know the answer to someone's question. Thanks

i used a stock luv rearend in a v-8 luv once, had the stock driveline and the v-8 driveline cut into and put the stok luv rear u-joint yoke on the v-8 driveline. works like a charm. be sure to take it to a driveline specialist, they fix u up good.

as far as the luv rear end holding up if you notice most of those were not posis and were running regular street tires. the guys that have scattered there rears were getting decent traction ie sticky tires and traction bars. so if you plan on slicks or sticky street tires i would look for a diferent rear.

I have a V-6 and i ran with the stock rear u-joint for well over a decade. But thats a stock V-6 setup. If it wasn't for the screaming engine and overheating problems on the Hwy, I'd still be running it today. I even bought a spare u-joint when i converted the truck to a V-6. I still have it in the Beck-Arnley box wrapped in wax paper.

Thanks fella's for all the feed back. I am not going to drag race my luv, so the stock rearend will be ok for now. In the future I guess I will need to up date to a stronger chevy rearend. I should have my truck running by this summer, and while the weather is great I just want to enjoy cruisin. Next winter I will just plan on changing rearends. Heck, I'll need something to do in the garage during the winter months anyway.
Luv4me that must have been a great burn out, wish I could have seen it. That would be a great story to hear drinking a beer and having a good laugh.

Ive posted my story before but here it is in breif.

I grenaded my stock rearend. blew out the spider gears, but thats enough to shut it down. Mine was also the shift into second. i knew a guy who ran his with a stock v8 for a few years and then blew his upon building his rig hotter.

the day it happened was perfect timing. day before the super chevy show, so it added to the overall hype. maybe like baggin a deer before a gun show. (deer) 8O I knew I'd tub my truck so it was ear to eat grins. wife didn't get it.

i wouldnt waste the money on a stock rear end with v8. i did and had to replace it.

g
