so I just thought I'd post a pic of my puppy, Shadow. He's 11 years old. I took him to the vet yesterday 'cause he wasn't doing to well and found out he's got incurable lung cancer. I dunno how much longer we'll have him. He's the best dog ever and I'm going to miss him so much I don't know what I'll do without him. Anyways I just had to get that out

only pic I got of him on my computer is of him yawning. lol.

I feel for you Jess!

I lost my dog to prostate(sp) cancer last year. He was fine one day then we noticed some problems, wetook him in to the vet later that day and ended up putting him down the next moring. It was all very sudden and heart-breaking. I had had him since i was a small child, one of the hardest things ever.

I send my condolences.

:( Sorry to hear that Jess, keep the little dude comfortable and happy!

My dog just got into some trouble a couple weeks ago, he was playing around with a porcupine and ended up gettting 15 or 20 quills stuck in his snout. Had to pull every one of them with needlenose pliers, and he yelped every yank. I don't think he likes me too much at the moment.. but it had to be done.

I was told if you cut the ends off with scissors, they kinda deflate a little, and supposed to make em come out a little easier.

Sorry to hear that Jess, I can totally feel for ya! I lost my best friend for the last 12 years 7 months ago tomorrow. Was one of the worst times of my life, still not completly over it. She is my permanent avitar now. I had taken her for her yearly check up and got a clean bill of health and then 8 hours later at 2 o'clock in the morning I had to put her down because of a stomach problem and with her being so old the chances were pretty slim of her making it through the surgery which would have been over $7000. Was a very hard call to make, I still tear myself up over it. One good thing you can take out of it, you can be prepared now for the day to come (which I hope will be as far in the future as possible) and give him the best of everything now and know you gave him a very good life. And remember we are here for support!! Todd

well thank you everyone for the kind words.

last night was one of the worst nights ever, I had to listen to him try and breathe all night long, I don't think either he or I slept at all. I was terrified all night long that he'd suffocate and I wouldn't be able to do anything. So I woke up at 8 and called the vet the second they opened and talked to them. They said his lung capacity was so minimal that he wouldn't be able to breathe soon. I didn't want him to be in any more pain and suffering. I didn't want him to be miserable. But it was so hard, because I wanted to keep him. It was so hard. So we made an appt for 12 today and took him in.    It was the absolute hardest thing I have ever done. He was the best dog ever. Today, we gave him soft cat food, lol, his favorite. He licked it up sooo fast! We also gave him Ritz crackers and took him for a really short walk around the front yard. He really liked that. It was the first time in a long time his tail came out from between his legs. We took lots of pictures of him and with him, too. At the vet's, we brought his favorite pillow for him to lay on and just comforted him so he wasn't nervous about being at the vets. Once he was calmed down, they came in and I petted him while they gave him the shot. Not long into the shot I saw him leave, through his eyes, he just wasn't there anymore. And that was that. But he was really comofrtable the whole time, he didn't look scared at all. He looked at peace. I just kept talking to him and I just think he knew. I don't know but that's what I like to think. It's hard, I don't think its set in quite yet. I have a hard time realizing he won't be there to greet me at the door, bouncing up and down and stealing the mail off the table (he always had to have something in his mouth, lol.) There's more I think about but I'll just keep all of that to myself.

thanks everyone. He was a really great dog I'm going to miss him so much. I've never lost anyone or thing to death, this is my first up close experience with death, and it's been really difficult. Thanks everyone, I know things will get better its just really really hard right now. I've never been in so much emotional pain in my entire life. I feel at peace because he's not in pain anymore but I miss him so much and then I think about how I'll never see him again and all of those combined just make me start crying. But thanks again everyone for the kind words I appreciate it.

 Sorry to hear it had to come so soon.
You did the right thing though, just remember that and whenever you think about it, just think about all the good times you had with him. It will take time to heal so stay strong and dont keep the emotions in.

Next time that happens (which seems to be every year), I am gonna give that a shot. Thanks for the tip :D

Wow, sorry to hear to hear that Jess.

It's funny how attached we get to the little furry companions we keep around the house. The unconditional love of a dog is always a good thing to have in your life. They become family members before long and are hard to let go of.

I lost my favorite dog when she got hit by a car. I think I'd rather get to say my goodbye's first.
