Hello, I am wondering how hard it is to rebuild a diesel motor from one of these pickups. I would like to get one but am wary because they have high mileage in most cases. I would like to get one in good shape and rebuild it eventually. I would think the motors would be easier to work on than the "modern" engines in the new vehicles. Any thoughts?

Considering all the stuff new vehicles have, I guess it would be easy to rebuild this Isuzu diesel engine if you know what you are doing. What is the mileage on the engine(s) you may get? If it has high mileage, which I would say is over 300,000, rebuilding it would be awesome in the end because the performance will be like brand new. These engines on paper don't list a big number torque, but if you rebuild one it will have so much torque compared to a high mileage engine it is unreal.

I saw a 1982 Luv diesel 4X4 on ebay. It had about 170k miles on it. I figured it would go another 50-100k miles before needing a rebuild. Just checking on feasibility for the future. I didn't bid on the truck, but am interested in getting one. I am not a mechanic, but used to be a machinist, so I think I could manage with assistance and patience. Later, Roger.

There is not mutch differance in power between the worn diesel and new. they were pritty gutless when new.

At least, compared to a 81' 1.8l, mines got enough torque to burn em', the 1.8 i know can spin in gravel...
