well i hooked up myMSD 6 ignition and weber carb. I need to get a bracket for the kickdown.. ive been driving it around without it hooked up(way differnt to drive!) the engine goes up to a higher rpm before it shifts (you feel it shift too). and when i need to pas or get on it i just move it down to second....is that a bad idea? it almost feels like i got a shift kit in it!!!

I've been driving mine around like that too. don't know if it's bad or not...
I have noticed the thing doesn't shift at the same points as it use to. But if it grenades it'll get a v8 like my other one. 8)

I used to have a friend who did it all the time in his camaro, but the tranny went south. Whether it's because of the shifting or the fact that he's just never had any car longer than a year without royally ***raping it, I couldn't tell ya.

i dont think it hurts it too bad. just watch your fluid, it should tell you to stop or not if it starts getting burned and stuff.

I did that too, in an '84 Monte Carlo, stock 305/350 trans. The trans eventually went out. I got a buddy of mine's uncle to build my trans for me (he owns an AMMCO shop in Memphis, 20 plus years). I told him how I had been shiftin it....he told me it'll ruin the thrust bearing in it, & eventually it need to be rebuilt again.
Well, I didn't listen!!
He BUILT the trans., for me, & I went back too manually shiftin it again. And, again it went out, so , the 3rd time I listened. That one was still barkin 2nd, AND 3rd, 3 years later, when I traded it in.

He also built the 350 trans. that'll be goin in my Luv. He built it with a manual/automatic valve body. It CAN be shifted manually OR on its own with out hurtin it.
