Does anybody know if they make a 6 inch dampner for the sbc 400. I am in a pickel with the dampner being to big, and might have to lift my motor up about half an inch or so to get the 8 inch dampner to fit

I did cut the frame as much as possible. Under the frame is a bar, I think its like a torsion bar or something that is under the frame right there, that I know I cant do anything to. So basically I am stuck with either lifting the motor or if there is such a thing as a 6 inch dampner.

Here's a link to a page that has 6-3/4 in dampers. It may not be enough to take care of the problem. My sb 400 fits in to the engine bay with enough room for the stock external balancer and a single pulley. There's just enough clearance at the frame crossmember. I was more concerned with the distributor clearance so i lucked out with the motor placement. Hope you get it sorted out without doing anything drastic.

Blue Meanie, you are the MAN 8) Now hopefully, the company I ordered my 8 inch dampner will take it back! But if they don't, it would still be easier to just buy the 6 3/4 dampner, then to lift my motor. I have the opposite room clearance with mine. I could put an electronic ignition in, and have all kinds of room, but everything in the front is real cramped. THANKS AGAIN!!!!!!!!! I sware you guys rock!

that bar under neath I put spacers under it to bring it down enough to clear the dampner and I have just enough clerance to install my belts. the spacers were 1/2 thick. its just like a sway bar spacing it down will not hurt for the street

Keep in mind that the 6 3/4 damper will be farther away from the timing tab on the timing chain cover. An aftermarket timing tab will correct this so you might want to see if that company has these also. You didn't mention a pulley problem. Hopefully you have a pulley and you're factoring this into the problem.

Spacing the front sway bar down an inch could be helpful but dont get carried away with it. If you need to go farther than that i would think that you would need to shorten the attach bolts at the lower control arm the same. I wouldn't go any farther than an inch on the bolts.

I havnt tried to put the pulley on yet due to the no room issue yet, but NO I didn't think about that  I hope its not an issue! I have some room to go forward, just no room to go down. If that makes sense?

So I bought a B&M shifter off ebay right. Of course it didn't have the cable or brackets you need to install it, but anyway, I bought them and wanted to install them today. I started reading the directions[well lookin at the pictures actually] But in big bold print it says "IF YOU DO NOT ADJUST CABLE CORRECTLY, YOU WILL DESTROY CABLE AND TRANNY IN ONE SHIFT!!!" Im like "DAMN" aint that some shit!! Anyway, got er done, and it shifts nicely, but talk about being paranoid

b+m shifters r always tricky..if its just not so it won't go into park or reverse if you have a lock out reverse pattern .the cable dictates all of this......
