My folks have restored a 1979 Luv. They're looking to sell it, and I'm interested in buying it from them. I don't know what to offer them though. Maybe you folks could tell me what a fair price is. Here's some info about the truck

4x4
Mikado
Has factory ac (I'm told that's rare?)
standard transmission
body completely redone, and repainted factory color, baby blue
interior completely redone, including hand sewn velour seats. Dark blue
A quality topper shell. White in color (it's a nice topper)
A new motor. (it's either brand new or it was completely rebuilt, I'm not sure which)
New half shafts

I don't know a whole lot about cars, let alone what they're worth, but it's a beautiful truck and I'd hate to see it leave the family. So if anyone knows a fair price for it let me know. The goal when they restored the truck was to get it as close to stock as possible, so that it looked like your just drove it off the showroom floor. No mods or anything. All stock.

Thanks!

hmmmm :? how many miles are on it ? sounds like it's in great shape. maybe 3500 :? i'm seen bids on showroom luvs on ebay go up to 7500.
guess the only thing you can do is get us pics  to really tell you what it's worth.
how about you go in the luvtruck gallery if you don't have pics and pick a truck thats looks about right :D

you gotta get it  rare is good. it kinda seems you like it enough already :D. you'll be shocked at where you could go in it. there pretty impressive offroad, great at hauling (i've hauled a full size 2 person golf cart in mine and ran at 60 with no problem. and if you want a drag truck its perfect because of the 6 crossmember frame.

BUY IT, BUY IT :onfire: :drinking:
you won't regret it

I don't know the miles on it but I can ask.

It looks JUST like this, only baby blue, and instead of the bed cover, it's got a nice topper.

My only real concern with it is that I live in Montana, and it can get below freezing like 9 months out of the year here. The 79 doesn't have electronic ignition from my understanding, and will be next to impossible to start. My intention is to use it as my primary vehicle. I found on this site a way to convert it to electronic ignition, using 82 parts, but after my folks went to the trouble of making sure it was factory, I wouldn't have the heart to do it. I'll just plug it in and tough it out.

This is what I'm driving now.

It's got that crappy GM paint from that era, and it's pretty much peeled all along the top of the car. It's at 230k miles, and still runs like a champ, but it's leaking tranny fluid, (I'm hoping changing the fillter will solve that) and it's just not designed for camping trips, mountain roads, etc.

My plan is to clean up the Park Avenue as much as possible, get the tranny leak stopped if I can, and hopefully get up to $1200 out of it, even though it blue books for like $800. Then I'll hand that off to the folks, and have myself a down payment on a nice truck that I can luv and call my own. Not to mention actually try to fix if something goes wrong on it. Modern cars are hard!
