Just out of curiosity, what makes you think it is what is worn out? 3500 miles isn't much at all for a throwout bearing. I reused the one on my 77 when I swapped the motor into it about 100K and a dozen years ago.

One thing that may be the problem is the pilot shaft bearing is wasted. I thought my throwout bearing was bad so i changed it and 2 days later the howling noise came back. When i pulled it apart again i was looking for signs of a problem and noticed the tip of the transmission pilot shaft had some signs of wear. I checked the bearing in the end of the crankshaft and i could feel play in the bearing. Plus i couldn't get it to spin very easy. As i tried to remove the bearing, the inner race of the bearing came out and the ball bearings hit the floor. That meant the motor had to be pulled and i needed to make a puller of some kind to remove the outer race. It took all day to get the race out of the end of the crankshaft with the tools i had and made. Once i got the new bearing in and the truck running again it was smooth! It felt like a brand new transmission.

well i know that its weird that the throw out bearing would go out that fast because the one before i replaced it had 250,000 miles on it and it was still fine!!!!!! i thought i was that because when you would push the clutch in it would make a grinding/clanking noise :? but im not sure i really dont want to pull apart and fix it tho! my dad just wants me to sell it because it takes all my pay checks cause it breaks all the time! just little stuff but i work at target and dont make much money!

When I pulled my motor and tranny I knew a few people that had more mechanic skills than I have, I paid them to help me and ended up saving a lot of money vs going to a regular mechanic. Though it does requrire you to have a area to be able to work on your truck.

I say replace the throwout bearing and pilot bearing. Its possible with lots of parts for any truck or car to be a new be defective. If you get someone to help you pull the tranny it would'nt cost that much to buy both the bearings.

If you need a refernce, my brother lives in Paseo Robles. He helped me pull my tranny on my luv and did some mechanic work in the Marines on trucks including Hum V's and other trucks.
