went to the junk yard sunday....pulled a short block outa a 79 2wd and found the cylnder walls had fresh crosshatching.... re ring? spark plugs were worn but clean. there was however a lot of build up on top of the pistons.

the flywheelwas also recently machined and there was a near(500mi?)new clutch put in.

here's the question...as my motor is burning oil like it's goin out of style, should i just swap the new block in and remanufacture my old one, or should i have the new one specd and rebuild first......

there's a set of hedders w/2" exaust and a webber being installed when i make the swap. how much stress would this put on a questionable block?

i can see the point in being safe and rebuilding this thing but ....but...but,etc.

I went to the boneyard and found a 1979 with a bad tranny and took the valves out of it. When I did that I found a thrown rod. So now I have a good set of valves for my 75/76. I took them to have them machined and the fella said he never seen a set of 30 year old valves that looked so good.

I think the rod that the dude/dudette threw was because the clamp wore out. But anyway,

the moral of the story is to always look at pulling something like that out of a truck as a opportunity.

I would tear down the sb and rebuild it to make sure she is good, then store the other one after you tear it down and put it back in 8-)

all right!!!!

here's the deal $810 gets me a .40 over borew/parts, performance ground cam set, new crank, bearings, high press oil pump, larger valves ,pollished ports in the head and a little tighter clearances w/the bearing sets.

my machinest said i could get a safe(?for the engine) 1000rpm+ out of this setup and possibly(no guarantys)130 hp. costs 150 bucks more than the standard rebuild.

we were talking about the price of gas and came to the conclusion that it will not get any cheaper($2.45 for the cheap stuff here) so if you are not rich you probably won't have a v/8 in your ride any more.(you should see the classifieds here)

let's give a hand to performance 4 bangers....the only power that i can afford
:D

btw..... if this cam is pretty hot i'll give out this guys business info cause he grinds em' himself.
