If any of you guys run your own shop that smogs are full Mechanice shop, I'm wondering if we could take 2 Luvs the same year (76 or newer for this experiment) , and have one compeletey stock and the other with no smog equipement, Have them both tunned up and then compare the emmisons they both put out.

I think there would be very little differnce. If that is the case, it would be helpful to stop this horrible smog bill in CA.

are you looking to have it done for free? cause any smog shop that u pay has to run all the tests even if it doesn't pass a visual first.

when all of the smog gear is taken off a motor you have to run it really lean to get it to pass the numbers.

you could ask some of the guys aroung here that run webers and hedders and the'll tell you the same thing.

the referee process here in california alows for the unavailability of smog equipment for older vehicles and that's why it'll pass if you and provide documentation that you've spent a certian amount of money(depending on the year of the vehicle) trying to get it to pass.

I't is kinda rude if you think about it cause the people that can afford to spend the money are the guys that can afford to just get a new vehicle.

If i was going to try to take on this argument on a political basis, i would compare the emmisions of "suv's" and the amount on them road compared to our "classic" or "vintage" year vehicles.

there's a place for car clubs like ours and that's as a lobbying force. We're running at 800+(?) that's a force to be reckoned with.( damn that's a lot of letters to read)

poloution is a problem that needs to be dealt with before we kill off the things that make this world so great.....

I would concentrate on getting definable exeptions made to laws like these. such as vehicles registered to members of"vintage" car clubs. cause in our great state of "there ought to be a law about that" liberals there's no way for us to out vote the olds and the ex-hippie housewives...

I was just throwing out some ideas as far as having a comparsion of different emmessions. I think I like your idea of having a group of "vintage" vehicles be exmept from being smogged.

i was thinking more along the lines of an exemtion involving car clubs....

i just made a 75 mikado trailer to go with my ride and i had to fill out this form called "micelaneous statement of fact" this is a new form and it covers everything from buying a vehicle from a family member(no smog) fabricating your own vehicle. it could be used a s a statment of car club membership.

the letter you got back from your assemblyman seemed to be leading along the same lines (i loved the example of shelby)

keep writing him......all the letters i've ever written(involving future prop 215 way back in high school)were sent back as form letters and the fact that you got something back that was a bit personal as well as a specific reply was a _very_ good sign. keep it up with this guy... he may be all of our saving graces when we want to hand our trucks down to our kids(if they can afford gasoline)
