Hello everyone, I was trying to adjust my valves on my 78 chevy nova, in the chilton it says to put the rotor on the distributor pointing towards the #1 firing position to adjust some of the valves and then put the rotor on the #6 firing position and adjust the rest, by the way it is an inline 6 cyl. I did all that but the valves are tapping really bad now. Should I adjust them with the crankshaft pulley lined up with the 0 tdc mark and then for the rest of the valves just crank the motor 180 degrees to adjust the rest. Thanks, Shane

Hey, well start it and have valve cover off and if you turn each one down til it starts to tick and then back it off one full turn. That is pretty much where it should be. This is how I did it on my 69 Chevelle and it purrs like a kitten, and yes it does have a 6 cyl but it was my grandmas car and it is all original. It's a shame my sister got to drive it to highschool cause it was in perfect shape. Now it needs some body work and a new interior and engine. Also a new top cause it's a convertible. But it is still a fun car. Hopefully this helps. John

Thanks John, yeah my mother in law drives this nova and it now runs like a piece of s--t, now it has a knock in the engine and it drives me nuts, I think it could be from towing a boat with it , but I will try what you suggest and thanks again. Shane
