I gotta question for any of you guys runnin' a big block in your LUV. How does it handle? Does the front suspension hold the weight OK? Or is it overloaded?

i know RatnLUV put a mustang front end under the front of his LUV. Probly to handle the wieght better, but that also gets rid of the torsion bars making room for headers and also probly helps whith handling. As far as handling goes, i would guess its no slolom machine.

The Stude V8 is about 650 lbs, which is close to the BBC's weight. I know it'd never be an auto-cross contender, but I'm wondering if the stock torsion susp can handle it. Exhaust routing isn't a prob- lots more room to work with in my Studebaker! :D

My truck drives great. I cross White Oak Mountain when I drive it to work and run over the speed limit most of the time. As far as weight ,the engine is back far enough that the weight is carried by the whole truck. My front end was install as Heidts suggested (with the springs removed)to where the lower control arms are level at ride height with the crossmember. When I installed the old used springs it sat too high. I then purchased new pinto 4 cly. WITHOUT AIR springs and it was still too high. I ended up cutting 1 round out of them.

Do a search and I listed the weight of each corner and the weight of my neighbors Mustang ( aluminum heads 302) it will surprise you.

My son had a 97 S-10 and the Luv drives as good as the S-10 did.
Mustang ll is the way to go. Their is a reason so many rod shops are making them.

Thanx for the info, RAT, but I'm looking for comments on the stock LUV susp. If I were going to use a MII IFS, I wouldn't be doing a frame swap on my Studebaker. The only reason I'm using the LUV is for the front end! :D

But you did help out a lot. I'll just set the engine back a little to lessen the front end weight. That shoulda been obvious to me, but it wasn't.
