I broke down on the way to town last week, finally got it running enuf to get home and I when I was checking stuff, the rotor seemed really loose, so I took it off and the stem it's on had too much play. Luckily I found a remanned disty and put it on, problem solved.

But then the next day it stopped idling and was backfiring when too little of gas was given to it. Also when U hold the throttle as a certain point, it will rev up and down. Runs really rough and crappy. I checked all the vacuum lines, they look good, I finally took the Weber double barrel carb off and opened it up, everything looked fine, so I just cleaned it and put it back on. The truck still does the same thing.

I played with the adjustments, no matter where I put the idle screw, it won't idle. Anyone know a site with the Weber manual or something? How many turns out for the adjustment screws? Any other ideas? Any help is appreciated.

check the points in the distributor. They are probly out of adjustment. Ill try to find the gap they need to be at today and post that up(50thousandths springs to mind though)

You can find Weber adjustment info at http://www.carbs.net/Weber/adjust.htm but I get the feeling it is something in the ignition system. It sounds like it could be a problem with the points, maybe they weren't screwed down tight on the new distributor or they just decided to go bad now as a coincidence. Check them for pits and peaks and see what the gap is. If the gap is off or the points have buildup or wear it can make the truck run awful.

EDIT:
Guess I'll have to type faster next time so Mepr doesn't beat me to the punch. ;)

The point gap for a 1976 and newer is between 0.0016 and 0.0022 inches. I think the 50 you were thinking of is .50mm, which would also be right. (.45 to .56mm to quote the exact range)

The ignition gap should be between 0.018-0.022.

I heard that the remanned distributors are taken off junk cars, get the rust blown off, and they just put new bushings in them and usually don't even test them before they send them back out.
I'll check the points again, and thanks for that link to the Weber site, I was looking for that.

Points are just fine. This is getting annoying.
My friend said to rip off all the vacuum lines except the one from my distributor and power brakes. I don't know if that is a smart thing to do, but he has had a couple luvs himself.
I guess I'm going to give my mechanic a call and see if I can drop off the truck, I'm sure it's a 10 minute fix, I just can't get it.

if the ignition is fine, it soundslike trash in the carb. maybe you should pull it off and blow through it, and let it soak in carb cleaner.

isn't this the same problem shane was having with his luv? where are you shane? and how did you fix yours?

Like I said, I took the carb off and cleaned every little part. Got the air compression, blew everything out, and put it back on, made no difference that I can tell.
That's pretty much why I laid back on the carb, because the disty is new and the points are right, I followed it all the way to the plugs, everything is sparking good.
