Post subject: Tapping noise from head
PostPosted: Sun Jan 25, 2004 11:37 am
Okay, here is my other problem.Stock 1979 1.8 litre. There is a rapping/tapping sound coming from my valve cover. It sound sorta lke loose valve last, but I haveI have checked the valve lash numerous times, and I do no think that is it. I replaced the timing chain, tensioner, and guide plates when the tensioner came apart last summer. I hope it is not piston slap, or rod bearing/wristpin slop. The sound seems too high up, and light to be that. TIA for any others who have been thru this, David[/img][/b]

Probably just need to run the valves. Mine does it in the mornings but stops after it warms up.

welcome to the site. mine has a tapping noise all the time but i probably need to readjust my valves, from the 1.8s and 1.9s that i've heard, they all rattle a little from the valves.

I know the valves in the 75 have to be. It ticks up front in cyl number 1. But other than that it ran 55 Mph down the road. Quite impressive for a truck with no plates!

Good point. On the tick it does shudder. So it may be time to pull the cover gaskets and see what present is under the hood.

You think a quarter turn all around would be good?
