I recently bought a 1979 4x4 Luv...with no door keys.

I picked up some LockSmart locks from the auto parts store, part #DL15800 which claims to be a fit, but the hole in the pawl of my existing lock is much larger than the nub that sticks out on the back of the new lock.
Are these locks just not compatible? Does anybody know of some that are for sure? I thought maybe I could just replace the pawl as well but can't seem to find any.

Anything you find new in a store is going to be for an actual GM product and they won't fit. Your best bet will be find some from a parts truck.

A good locksmith can make keys using the existing locks.

Sure took me a long time to find a good locksmith...I had a key number & the dealer ship said they don't handle anything that old. Every locksmith I called told me the same but I finally found somebody!

Perfect Fit! :D

Found a lock cylinder that fit perfectly w/o modification for my 1980 LUV.

Found it on ebay.com titled "Fit 1983-1991 Isuzu Trooper 1st Gen Bighorn Chevrolet Trooper Door Lock and Keys"

It was US $63.78 and it shipped from outside of the US in 6 days.

Came with 4 keys and two cylinders.
