Hey guys, having a little issue figuring out how to start my motor while its out of the truck. It's probably pretty simple. Waiting on the books to come in next week but I wanna get started now...long story short I'm rebuilding the original g180 for the 2wd 1979 chevy luv but I found a running 4x4 1979 chevy luv at the wrecking yard down the street. Pulled the motor but I wish I took more pictures. I just want to run it for like 10 seconds before I replace a few things on it and throw it in the truck. I already ran the starter and getting 150 on all cylinders. Spark plugs are good. Need to figure out which tube is for the fuel and how I should hook up the coil with power. Also there's a wire thats been cut that's coming from the side of the dissy and I'm not sure what I should do about it at the moment.

I've never done this myself but you would need a battery. Ground to the block. power to the starter and solenoid and coil. Positive side of the coil I think, but am not for sure. Fuel in the carb., I would just fill the float bowl through the vent tube. that should be all it needs.

Thanks @rondog and @Luvrv8 for the reply. I got the wrong books   They were for the 4.0 and bigger engines. Just ordered the official books from ebay luckily. Wired it up as you guys mentioned. Measured the voltage at the connections to make sure they're right and have enough juice. Trying to figure out why I'm not getting any spark at the moment. Have new ones sitting inside them right now. 12v going to the coil and into the dissy. Dissy is spinning and hitting all the points. Everything's clean in there. Going to be doing some more searching around on what might be the problem for it not sparking up.

Also I added pictures of how the truck looks. Hardly any rust spots and the body is straight for being up in the pacific north west. I will be looking into treating some rust spots eventually. Have a 5 speed manual tranny and driveline I will be installing with this engine, Hoping everything will go smoothly.
