New to site but have been lurking for a while. I have been using this site as a resource for a while and looking for a little direction.

I have a 77 Luv that I have gathered up most of my parts for and it's time to put them together. Small block/ 9" Ford/2004R trans. Its a Street/Strip project with a little more on the strip side. I ordered the Aerospace front discs last month. I would like to order a back half 4 link kit from Autoweld but may run leaf springs first.

Anyway, I have an Art Carr 2004R. It looks like most people who are running Automatic transmissions here are not modifying the Trans tunnel and firewall? It looks pretty tight. If I have to dimple the tunnel much for clearance I would be inclined to cut the tunnel out and fab up a tunnel. Would it be beneficial to fab up a tunnel or does the stock tunnel have sufficient room?

Its tight, but it should work. I had had several powerglide and turbo 350
combos over the years with a stock tunnel. I fabbed a late 70s gm truck tunnel in my last one, as I put a 4l80 in it, and that was a no go. I had to sledge hammer a stck tunnel back in the day, but got a turbo 400 in it.

The trans mount on the 2004R landed right on top of the cross member. Fantastic! I did make a small access hole in the floor to see whats going on

I don't have my engine mount or motor plate yet, but it looks like the bell housing bolts and everything else clears!

Back to work on the LUV. Was going to put a Moser 9" into it with a Nodular 3rd member, and a speedway disc brake set up into it, but have a complete Modular Strange set up that would make the job even easier.

The Strange Modular housing and 4 link already has everything I need for the rear end and suspension so its a no brainer. It's even Narrow for the Luv, so I will have to get some wheels with hardly any back spacing though.

Thanks. I'm hoping to having it put together by Feb/March.

Decided to bite the bullet and go with an Autoweld Chrome Moly cage along with enough extra tubing to build a frame. Truck is at the Fabricators and most of the frame is going away
