A lot has happened to this truck since it came home.
The Sniper didn’t like the big cam so it had to go. Replaced it with the Edelbrock Pro Flo 4. It’s an SFI system with 8 injectors, not a TBI system like the Sniper. It controls timing too. All set up with an Android tablet.
The 4L80e took a shit about a year ago. I rebuilt it and encountered problem after problem. I replaced the reverse drum during the rebuild and didn’t set the pin properly and smoked the new band. Educated myself on the second rebuild and it only had third gear. Went through it again and found no issues. Dug up a military service manual and digested it... turned out I got a bad solenoid out of the box. Finally got to drive it a little (almost a year later) and then the controller took a shit. Replaced that with a US Shift Quick 4 and so far have put 50 miles on it with no issues. It’s not much but it’s the most I’ve put on the truck with no issues.
I replaced the Camaro center console with a Classic Consoles Humphugger for a 66 Mustang. Had to make a few modifications but it looks good and has cupholders. I’m giving the Camaro console to dad for the green Nissan.
I still have a few lights to hook up and the brake light switch is causing the brake lights to stay on all the time now. Should have that replaced soon.
The gauges mytmouz installed never worked right and I never could figure out if there was a way to fix them. They rested way below 0 and the needle was keyed so you couldn’t just reindex it. I finally bought a Dakota Digital VHX 1018 and it works great. A little pricey but I guess it wasn’t much worse than a new set of AutoMeters. I bought a sheet of ABS plastic off Amazon and used the glove box door for a template. Thanks Tilted for that idea. (remembered from a 15 year old post) The ABS plastic has a nice grain to it and fits the interior style of the truck really nicely.
I got a new set of seatbelts off eBay pretty cheap. Not much to say there except they work and fit nicely for $50.
Happy to be able to drive and enjoy again. It took a while and some money, but dang I love the truck.
