The master cylinder started leaking about a week ago. My sun has been driving it to the collage and back as a daily driver. he pulled in and the thing was smelt like burnt brake pads, and the rims were so hot we could not even touch them. He said it had been smelling all the way home. Guessing he was doing around 70 for about forty miles or so on the way home and forty five for ten miles extra to the house. After it cooled of I looked and there was break fluid leaking out of the mating surface between the power break booster and the master cylinder. After calling three parts stores nobody had a Master cylinder for a 1972 listed. We found out that AutoZone at 44 bucks with reservoir, discount at 65 with out reservoir. Orile at 52 with out reservoir, had a 1974 Master Cylinder. listed. I ordered the one from AutoZone and waited three days for it to get here. When it arrived I noticed the ports for the lines were on the passenger side instead of the drivers side like the old one we took off. The following is some of the work that it took to get every thing lined up, and working again with the new product.
Brake fluid must have been a slow leak for a while for it to get all that rust. we just started to have to add fluid about four days or so ago.
