HELP! Does anyone know what oil to use in the front diff on a 79 4x4
My truck has been sitting for 2 weeks now, cant run it because I do not have any oil in the front diff=(

I just finished moving and I can't find my factory service manual right now, so I can't answer your question.

But I can give you a temporary fix - unlock the hubs and shift the transfer case to 2WD only. Everything up front at that point SHOULD remain stationary, or only spin very slowly at most.

But check to make sure the hubs are actually unlocked by grabbing the CV joints and try spinning the axle shafts. They should spin fairly easily.

GL-5 gear lube, 90w works for most average temps, use thinner for extra cold, thicker for extra hot. Rear differential uses the same.
Capacity is 1.7 pints, so a single quart bottle will refill. In reality fill until the lube runs out the fill hole with the truck sitting level.
