I just finished upgrading all my marker and signal lights to LED. My dash instrument lights have been LED for some time with no troubles. I installed an after market stereo that only had blue lights and wanted my dash lights to match. (That involved opening up the dash to clean years of dust accumulation and repainting needles with a fluorescent paint that glows with the blue LEDs... Different topic...)
After installing the new marker and signal lighting outside the truck, my turn signals no longer used the higher current to trip the flasher, so they just burned steady. Much research led me to more questions than answers, and my local auto parts stores were about worthless for answering questions.
So after much internal debate I took a leap of faith with some crimp fittings, wire and a Novita EP27 electronic flasher. One module handles both my turn and hazard flashers with a nice audible click. The flasher only ran me $16 so it was much less than buying 2 modules.

On my 77 Luv, the signals and hazard flashers are separate, they use 2 different modules entirely and the harnesses are different. The Novita EP27 has 5 terminals.
E - Ground
B- Battery
H - Hazard
L - Turn
I - Ignition

This flasher is designed so you can opt to have the turn signals not operate with the ignition off.

For my purposes, I prefer to have the turn signals operate with the ignition off. I could have used a cheaper 3 terminal unit, as it turned out, but eh...

I ran the wires as follows:
E - To Chassis Ground
B - Ran into the constant hot on the turn signal harness
H - Ran 2 wires, one To Hazard Load and one Turn Signal Load
L - No Connection
I - No Connection

I have heard that the wiring harnesses on these trucks are not always the same, so you will need to find which terminal is hot in each harness. Once that is determined, use one for your battery wire. The other wire in each harness feeds the turn signal or hazard switches respectively.

If you want the turn signals to be ignition dependent, just wire the L terminal on the flasher into the turn signal load on the truck's harness. Then wire the I terminal on the flasher to an ignition switched power source.

!!!WARNING!!! IF YOU PUT TERMINAL I TO A CONSTANT POWER SOURCE YOU WILL DRAIN YOUR BATTERY!!! It is meant to draw power for the turn signals. With it connected I showed power drain.

My photos are not uploading. Guess they are too big. But I have included some screenshots of the Novita EP27 from their website.

Hope this helps anyone who is trying this.

Jason

Or one could just unplug the stock turn signal flasher and put one of these in instead.

As I said earlier, I had very little help finding much other than the fact the electronic flashers need to have a grounding prong. I am sure there are other methods out there, but I could find nothing LUV related so I decided to type this up. No worries, I welcome more input. :)

This flasher would work, but on my truck anyway it would have to have a ground wire still, and my harness would have to be repinned. Factory is 2 wire, and the terminals used are on opposite sides. And a second one would be needed and wired in for the hazards.

I used that exact one (link taken from my amazon orders) on an early model Trooper (exact same setup as a Luv wiring and bulb wise). It worked just fine.

Just sayin'. :D

Does your trooper have a 3rd wire? The E terminal on the one I used was for a ground wire. The issues I read on all LED conversions mentioned needing to add the ground wire to make the flasher work. On the Novita EP27 I used the ground wire had to be connectwd for it to work. If your flasher works without it, that would be a better solution for sure.
