Hey all, I have a 1990 Trooper with the 2.6L that just blew the head gasket.

I figure with the preponderance of knowledge around here of all things Isuzu, this would be a good place to ask.

Are there any special things on the 2.6L that I should know about? You know, like on the G180 how the chain tensioner works. And the trick of zip ties on the timing chain. That sort of stuff? Anything like that I should know about before starting disassembly?

Thank you in advance,
Darrin

[EDIT] Also, how important is it to machine the block and heads on a 2.6L for a blown head gasket between #4 compression chamber and a water passage?

I know on the Luvs it's mandatory, but on the old Pinto 2.0L it was a waste of time. And the Toyota 18R and 20R it was suggested, but not required. You could get away without.

So how much trouble am I asking for if I just lifted the head half an inch, slid the old gasket out, slid a new one in and bolted it all back together again? I'm really trying to avoid taking the manifolds off if I can get away with it.

The PlanetIsuzoo.com forum is the best resource I know for the 2.6L 4ZE1. Or, maybe oldestisuzuist will see your question. This is probably a softball for him. ;)
