Looking for the proper spark plug. The book says NGK BPR6ES. All the parts stores say these are the wrong plugs. I have been using AC Delco R44XLS.

The Chevy parts manual calls for the R44XLS

I’m trying to get my gas mileage back up to 28 mpg. I rebuilt my carb replaced the plugs, rotor, cap and new plug wires and now my gas mileage is down to 23 mpg.. Looking at different spark plugs hoping that would make a difference. I'm running a stock 1.8 with a Weber 32/36 and Pertronix ignition with Accel 1.4 ohm coil with resistor still in place. Looking for suggestions.

I am not a fan of a.c. Plugs. I usually run the autolite equivalent..

With the Pertronix ignition you probably want a hotter plug.
I'd try the plugs and gap for an 85 Trooper.

Looking at the Bosch 6736 fine wire that's pre gapped.

Found a set of NGK BPR6ES-11 #7133 in with all my spare parts. Going to install them this weekend.
