I've got a 1979 chevy luv with an327 in it and a th350 tranny, my rearend is to low and I need to swap it into something within the lower 3 range I've got 3.73 in it right now and it's to low with my tiny tires. So what I'm asking is what radar axle will work for it, I've heard s10's with work very easily, but I do not want to buy brand new wheels again to fit the s10 5 lugs. I also don want to have to shorten any or the full size axles like the ford9"

3.42 (or something close to that) gears exist in some rare later luvs and Isuzu pups. Other than that, you're going to be hard-pressed to find a 6 lug rear that bolts right in and has a more desirable gearset.

Have you considered swapping in an overdrive transmission? 700R4s are cheap and plentiful.

Yes. I've thought about the overdrive, but I do not want to pull the transmission out for the 5th time..... I would like to know if the nissans and toyotas would work. I've heard they are six lug and are about the same width

I have swapped v8's into all of them. None of the stock rears hold up for long if you can make it hook, regardless of the vehicle type...

Get Moser of Strange, etc. to make you some axles fora 9 inch and specify 6 lug. Less work in the long run...

I'm definitely not a hotrodder, but just out of curiosity, what does this generally cost? Since there are no factory or even aftermarket parts for the original rear ends, the day may come when we need to look at other options. And having the option of limited slip is always nice, even for diesel drivers. ;)

I don't have the money for a 9inch ford to have it shortened, so what are my options on the toyta and Nissan

Bought mine for my LUV here. They made it slightly narrower for a stock LUV width at no extra charge. If you ask for the 6 lug pattern, it is the same price. (they are normally 5 lug, and you specify what pattern). I went small ford 5 lug as I have that pattern on the front, and wanted mine to match...

That's reasonable, considering it comes with ring & pinion, discs, calipers, etc.

I don't know if anyone who has swapped a Toyota or Nissan rear. Looked on Google and saw that there are some lower 3s available but I don't know anything about width or strength.

If you find out something else that works, let us know. I've been curious about this myself.

Nissan guys have used the Isuzu Amigo rears to get limited slip and a gear. Not sure what ratios they come with... In the d21 and 720 rears, only LSD's came in some of the V6 trucks. Somewhat hard to come by...
