Hi guys.....Has anyone ever changed out the 2 freeze plugs in the intake manifold on a stock 1.8l? They are just below the carb and face to the passenger side and appear to be about 1/2" in diameter. If so, did you do the job with the manifold still attached to the block? I have one leaking but not blown out yet. Lately, I'm putting about 80 miles a day on the truck in Phoenix heat and I'm getting 'nervous'. Of course I'd rather do it in the truck if possible. Also, are there any other freeze plugs in the intake manifold that you can't see without removal? Maybe I should worry about them also. Thanks for the help....Don

0n my 1980 Luv, I had my motor out at one time. I had a 2 bad plugs, and didn't have to remove the intake to do it.

You don't have to remove the intake manifold to get them replaced, but make sure that when you are gettting replacements that you get the right size. It took me 4-5 times get the size right

Jacob......were you able to get brass plugs that size or were they steel? The wheel well fender is sort of in the way and did you use any special tool or angled device? Thanks.....Don

They did not appear to be brass, they were a silver color. I just remember that it was a pain trying to find the right size. I ended up getting the right ones from Merele's. When i removed them I used a drill and a slide hammer very gently. Be careful with the aluminum because it is very soft

Thanks Jacob.....I did finally get some brass plugs installed. But, I had to 'stretch' a 3/4 brass one. Thanks, I didn't try Mereles....never heard of them.
