Christmas was nice this year, it brought me a car accident  . Luckily, I have a parts truck that is in good enough shape to take the complete cab and put it on my truck. Would it be easier to put my motor and trans in the other truck, yes. But would it be MY truck, no. So far, I've taken the front clip off, started stripping the interior, and broken the cab loose and removed the bed. Next step is to remove the cab and remove the engine. Then remove engine/trans off parts truck so I can remove cab. After that reinstall interior and AC parts in interior along with the climate control. Any advice would be appreciated.

Looks like your getting it done. Good thing you have a parts truck. It seems like it required to have at least on extra luv truck. Lol I am down to 2 with lots of spare parts.

Been chugging away on the little guy. I am really getting close to hearing it fire again. All I need to do now is fix the floorpan, wire up my ignition box, install air conditioning box, and interior and i should be back on the road in no time! It's been a long time since I've driven my little truck.

Got the truck to start up yesterday! Fired right up as if it hadn't been parked! Floor pan is repaired, all that is needed now is carpet, ac install and various wiring. Making great progress

I'm happy to say that the blue truck is back up and running! A few minor tuning things and she will be as good as new, with new paint of course. Thanks to the help of everyone here.

Hello would you be able to help me out on my ignition issue. I have posted a help request on various Petronix install post with no response so I hope you don't mind me jacking your thread. I have a 78 LUV that I'm trying to convert from points to electronic, Pertronix 1642 kit. I took many detailed pictures before I took out the original distributor, coil and resistor that showed where each wire was hooked up but unfortunately my phone that had the photos was stollen before I could do the job so I don't have a clue where the wires came off of or where they go. The new electronic ignition does have only 2 wires, positive and negative that just hook up to the coil but I don't know which of the wires I from the original set up is the ignition that goes to the coil, the 4 wires I see have no power when the key is on or off the only one that has power is the red wire from the battery to this tiny 2 prong box mounted to the fender well. Here is a few pictures of what I'm seeing. I think the short Blk/yellow wire + short Blk wire went on the ends of the resistor so they just get spliced together? since my new coil dosent require a resistor and then I think the shorter Blk/red wire and longer Blk/red wire are the same wire because if I put 12Volts on one end it shows 12V on the other end. My new set up is suppose to have just 3 wires to the coil, the positive and negative from the new Petronix electronic set up and the vehicle ignition wire, that ignition wire is the one I can't locate which will go onto the positive coil terminal. Any help with this would be appreciated.

Got it, a poster let me know its the Blk/yellow wire for ignition power. The Pertronix was pretty simple one you know which wire is which, just 3 wires to hook up the red and black from the distributor electronic kit goes positive (red0 and negative (black) to the coil and the original Blk/yellow that was on the resistor goes on the coil positive, the other wire disregard, runs okay but have to time it now.

FYI! Make sure you have paper work for the replacement cab as it will not match the frame numbers. IF it gets checked by the gestapo and the numbers, don't match, with no paper work, your legal bill could get high. In california they refer to it as grand theft auto. Granted, the chances of it ever being checked is slim and none, however I've known a couple of people who spent a night in jail and money on a lawyer. It would be best, however a PIA with cal dmv to take the paper work and they will put both vins on the title and registration. We have had them come in and borrow our torch to cut a hole in a frame to get access to one of the hidden vins. Pissed me off as they told us we had to weld it back. It was not a hot vehicle.

FINALLY got it back from paint. Was way too long. AZ emissions laws are tough to beat so she’s sitting until I can throw a new belt on. Feels good to drive it again
