I am getting ready for the valance to come tomorrow. I am going to fab up some brackets to mount the blinkers behind the grille tight up to the bezels. There seems to be room. Its not low enough yet either so looking for some blocks for the rear.

I have been working on this stripe design for a year or so and finally made one. I originally planned on having the logo cut into the stripe but for the first time out I did just the stripe and added the logo afterward. I got flat black vinyl for my 72 but haven't cut it out yet.

Awesome day working on the truck. I got the new valance stripped and straightened up a bit. Then threw a couple coats of paint on it. I went with a pair of Yamaha turn signals I had for behind the grill. I wanted to leave the stock ones alone and intact. Then a coat of satin black on the front end that will now be visible. I am going to let the paint dry overnight and then put it back together tomorrow.

Final test fit before paint

I am pretty happy with it. I had to go for a cruise when I finished putting it together.

A little update on the 78. I changed back to the stock front bumper and valance for now. I was ready to trade it for 2 non running 78 trucks but I changed my mind. The more I drive this truck the more I like it. Around town it is fun to drive and I get thumbs up wherever I go. I picked up the vintage shell last month but I am thinking it was made for an early Datsun rather than a Luv. It fits well enough but is small on the bed rails.

The fuel pump was loud from day one and last Monday while driving around it died. I pulled over and saw no fuel in the filter and the pump was way hot. Turning on the key it was silent. I waited 10 minutes and it started working again and I shot home with it. RockAuto.com had the best deal and I got a pump for $39 instead of $71 at the local parts stores. I got it in today and the new pump is silent when running. The old one you could hear at all times when running. The fuel filter was on backwards and full of desert silt. This was a desert truck before I got it. It seems to run better and has more power now so the old pump must have been weak. Another funny thing was whoever did the pump last time used old school telephone wire to power the fuel pump. Solid core copper wire with the white plastic covering still on it. I replaced it of course.

I installed the dash pad from the 78 I just parted out into this truck. I had the dash cap so I just trimmed it to fit. It is in better shape than the dash in my 72. I am glad nobody bought the dash pad, I had it on craigslist for 3 weeks at $40.

I have decided to sell my extra Luvs and focus on my 72 this year. Having 3 trucks makes it hard to make any progress at my age. The Red truck just passed smog with flying colors and the tags are good through this December (2017). I would rather it goes to a Luv guy then a random person looking for a small truck. This is a great running truck that will fire right up and go. I was told when I bought it the engine had been rebuilt but have no documentation. Overall it is pretty clean and a fresh paint job would make it look like new. The throw out bearing does make a noise occasionally so I purchased a new complete clutch kit but haven't installed it yet. If I do I will want more for the truck. There are no other known issues. If you are interested or have any questions shoot me a PM. You can see what I have done with it since I got it in this thread.

This is the current condition

This is the yellow 78 with a crawl through cab. Non Op in my name, no motor no trans otherwise complete. It does have some body damage on the right rear taillight but I have a complete replacement bed for it.

Both the Red and Yellow truck have been sold. Hopefully they will show up here again someday. My driveway seems huge now!
