Sadly I think this is exactly what happened.

Idea i had was to hide a gps tracker under the truck somewhere on a small battery. Adds some cost but a 12v battery like out of a little powerwheels jeep would run a tracker for a while. That way if it gets taken and has the battery pulled it still pings location for a while. Really hard to prevent theft of a 40 year old truck so i have been looking into recovery options like that

Old iPhone. Add it to your plan for $15 a month. Hide it in or under the vehicle in a weatherproof box somewhere and run a new 12v plug to a charger to it. Use the find iPhone app to locate it. There's probably room in the little emmisions box thingy in the bed. If truck battery gets disconnected the iPhone will stay on for a couple days.

After my buddy had his race car stolen last year we found there are devices like lojack ect. made just for race cars and trailers. They were pretty pricey but not as much as replacing a race car. My buddy got pieces of his car back after it was cut up. The thief was never charged for anything related to the stolen car since he was also dealing meth out of his shop and that is what they went with.

Wow, glad you got it back....and in one piece. My buddy has a little device for his gun safe. Runs on battery. If the safe is moved (motion) or opened (light sensor) it will text his phone. You have to be available to go see what's up, but it might work for a vehicle. He keeps one in his race car trailer also. An earthquake hit at the shop before his house, about 4 miles away. He got a text from his safe, and about a minute later the house started shaking.

Got 'er running again today. I didn't really have time to work on it today, but it got tagged for sitting in the same spot for too long.

Good news: the fuel pump and a few hoses and wires, and it fired right up.

Bad news: the jackass that stole it, drove it like he stole it. The timing chain is DONE. It sounds like there are marbles in the timing chain cover now all the time now. It used to only do it when it was hot.

Also the rear-axle is howling.

When they found it, it had a TON of dirt on the hood and roof, which didn't make sense at the time because it was in a residential area. Now that I see how it's running, I think they offroaded the shit out of it.

I don't know what to do next. I have all the parts, but I don't have time pull and fix the motor. I may see if I can get my dad to pull the motor for me. He's retired! :)

Maybe I'll just give it to my dad with the parts and help him when I can. Work has been ludicrous.

Maybe I can find a place to drop off the motor at?

Maybe I can just swap in a newer 4-banger for less effort?

Ben

Bring it out to Camarillo, I know a guy with a big garage that can help. I think he even has a truck and trailer.

No trap. I am not allowed to get another car until I sell an airplane so says my CFO. Anyone who knows me knows that is not going to happen.
