So i am looking at getting some bigger tires to offset my rear end ratio a bit. My 5 speed and 4.3 don't agree with the 4.10 very well so it's new axle and slightly bigger tires, or bigger tires and either way I need bigger tires so this works.

Equivalent ratio with 4.10 gear and bigger tires (based on my 195/75r14 that I assume are stock size)
A 30" tire equals out to 3.49
A 31" tire equals out to 3.37
A 32" tire equals out to 3.27
I probably cant squeeze 32s in there... But I'm looking at 30-31 with the balljoint flip, torsion bar reindex and maybe some fender massaging.. looking around it seems like most of you have needed some body lift to clear a 30" tire and I don't want to do that.. how far off were you guys I clearance with a 30-31. I don't want a big 12.5" wide tire was thinking more like 31x10.5 or 31x9.5
Was aiming for closer to 3.08 but that is out of reach at 34"

I'm not a fan of body lifts I would like to squeeze them in with the suspension lift and rear blocks/whatever I have to do.. I have spare car sheet metal of I have to get a little crazy and roll/flare my fenders a bit to clear.. But will see..

Saw a luv that is the sign holder for a mandrel bending shop nearby with some beefy tires under it that totally fill the fenders will stop and take a look today on the way home

Managed to get around traffic and check that luv out.
It is sporting what looks like no lift of very minimal lift.. on 32 x 11.5 R15s

Image

Some very full but uncut rear wheel wells, note the hilarious coffee can exhaust tip...

Image

Fronts about flush with fender. There were some flares screwed on at one point..

Image

Very minimal fender trim in front of front wheel

Image

Little behind front wheel too

Image

From what I can see the rear isn't lifted any, no spring over, blocks or anything. Haven't crawled under mine to confirm by they look like stock springs, under a lot of load due to the huge steel framed sign holder welded to the frame. Several hundred lbs at minimum.. anyone spot something im missing?

Image

Image

So it isn't a "clean fit" but 32x11.5s can be crammed in apparently... 31x9.5s with a little lift may not be as wild as I thought

Hahaha how great is that coffee can tip
I am gonna have to stop in there one of these days and see what the deal with it is.. Looks like something somebody prepped for one of the county fair tuff truck/mud races than parked and threw a sign post in the bed

Mild rear shackle lift 1-2" sound reasonable?
Doesn't seem like blocks really make much sense with a spring under axle.
Front with the trooper upper arms and flipped ball joints should get me 2" up front. So trying to find the best most cost effecrive way to match the height with the back.

Also saw it mentioned that you should use full size chevy rear shocks and stock fronts. Anyone have a year or part number for the rear full size ones to use

The coffee can must be there to appease the Civic clans in the area. I can't laugh too much since my Camry is running a modded reverse cone megaphone from my last motorcycle and the Luv will too when the header rebuild is done.lol

Agree'd... many of those around these parts.... masters of the "I lost the race a half mile ago but now that you are going slow I am gonna zoom past like my car is fast" style of "racing"

But we are getting off topic here... trying to figure the suspension work out here not laugh at coffee cans and kids in civics

Best way to get the rear end up a bit? Shackle lift? Re-arch?

Going from 24.5 to 31 gains 6.5" of tire so 3.25 more ground clearance but 3.25 inches more tire to fit in the wheel wells.. plenty of space now for most of that but the last bit i need to be sure on.
2"ish front and rear leaves me with only 1.25" more tire radius to deal with and I am pretty sure there is space for It now, i took my tape measure to it and there was clearance for 29+-30 just barely. So 2" up should get me there I think

I am gonna do some deep searching for the threads with the type of shocks used and different parts. I want to get the ball rolling on this soon. Been reading thru a few of the 4x4 threads but there really aren't many recent ones

Even with the trimming on the white truck I guarantee the front tires still rub. The rims don't have a lot of backspace or they would rub even more. I don't think you can eliminate rub with anything more than 31" tires, 8" wide rim max & as little backspace a possible & still clear the frame.
My truck has way more lift than the white one or than you're talking about adding, has 31/10.50s on 8" rims with 3" backspace plus a lot of fender trim & the tires still rub on the back front liner. It also has more suspension travel & flex than yours will have, so maybe you'll be OK. The same tires on 7" rims with 4" backspace might not rub.

Looks pretty dang good on yours.. I am also wanting a narrower tire than you have, was thinking 31x9.5", and my plastic inner liners are both gone I have rubber inner covers I made to block crap getting splashed into the engine compartment.
But i do plan to either find just the right backspacing or add spacers to get to the right spacing (no more than 1" big spacers just sound risky) off the frame as well as I can without going past the fenders.. much if any.

And yeah there is no way 32x11.5 fit in there worth a crap for anything but blasting around in the mud once...

Nevermind you said 3"
I will have to see what I can fit. A 30x9.5 may be a bit easier

Something like this wheel most likely. Toyota truck 15" with minimal back spacing and 8.7-9.5" wide tires

Found a set of 30x9.5R15 with wheels I am gonna take a look at later today to measure back spacing.
Tires dont have a ton of tread but they are very cheap and will work fine for getting my trimming and lift sorted out and a few months of use

Wheels I have now are 14x6 3.5" bs Picked up those wheels above they are 15x7 3" bs with 30x9.5s
Will see how well or not well they fit soon and go from there. They were only 75 with usable tires so no big loss either way if the wheels don't work out but I hope they do. Was aiming for 3.5-4" bs but the deal was just too good. Somehow left with a 5 gallon gas can too

Hopefully I can come up with one at some point to have a spare but for now I just gotta see about makin these fit. There is a bit less backspacing on these than my old ones so they will be frogged out a little bit, 1/2" or so from the offset, +1" of rim width and however much of that 1.8" more tire width, .9 or so I'm guessing. Thinkin it should have a nice aggressive stance to it

They would do well on the 2wd. Makes no real difference what it's on. I have a 2wd 4x4
What state are you in?
