Hello,
I have a 1976 LUV I have owned since 1985. It has been running the majority of the time but sat for a couple years recently. I have been restoring it with the original motor but have run into an issue with the gas tank. I am not mechanically inclined myself so have a mechanic working on it. The tank needs cleaning very badly and I cannot find anyone here in the San Fernando Valley, Los Angeles, who will drop the tank and clean it. They are all afraid they will run into to a situation which will prevent them from putting it back together (parts not available etc).
Does one have to raise the bed to drop the tank?
Anyone with experience in this area who can lend some advice would be appreciated.
The truck runs great but will ruin the carb so this is an obstacle which has become rather frustration.
Maybe I should cut a hole in the tank and flush it then weld it shut, I don't know?
Thanks in advance!

Pics of truck attached.

I have removed them without taking the bed off

I wouldn't recommend that unless you have a good life insurance policy. :onfire:

I would assume if you can get the tank out and everything disconnected, I wouldn't see why a radiator shop wouldn't clean it for you. I had one done a long time ago by the place that built my radiator.

The tank comes out from the bottom. I think 4 bolts and a few hoses and it will drop down. A radiator shop will clean it out and maybe do a treatment to it to help the rust not come back. Ask a few rad shops, they may even be willing to do all the work for you.

I would say are you willing to and ready to learn ? & You did join this group to learn about the truck.. :P
They're not that hard to pull it yourself w/ a few simply tools, rinse out & coat the insides. you can you-tube some videos on "how to" and you'll see its not to hard. And I would also suggest getting a manual you might not repair you tv but i bet you were glad to have one since you own the tv.....Right ?
