Is yours an 80 or thereabouts? I think there is a senser that goes through the body under the passenger seat. I think it connects into the catelitic converter. But then I also think that just the Calif. model had a cat.

Any chevy Luv that was sold in California had a different set of emission components that were required by the state to meet or exceed Cali's strict emission laws. With that being said the Cali luvs had a catalytic converter and O2 sensor with a brain box installed. If the air fuel mixture was to ever get out of spec or the converter would clog up causing excessive exhaust temp then the light would come on. Most likey the lights circuit has been grounded by either a bare wire rubbing the body or it is back feeding through another componet. Hope this helps
Mike.

Try this, if you aren't showing any symptoms of a hot cat this shows you how to turn off the light. If the emissions are out of whack the light will return when the cat again overheats.
