Hey guys,
I just joined I wanted to share some pics of my project.
I didnt get any really good pics of the Rhino Liner, but everyone knows what that looks like.
It took me about 10 hours to get the rhino liner out, and total I have well over 20 hours of work on the bed.
Ive removed the door mirros and patched the mounting holes.
And fixed big rust hole in the passenger door, I didnt take any pics of that.
Ill be shaving the antanae hole in the passeenger side fender.
I havent decided how much shaving I will do on the rest of the body (maybe none)

This one is pretty bad. IM still not exactly sure about what Ill do about the bed riffles.

This is where Im at now (just a little farther to go before I can finsih the body work on the bed)

It's looking like a big project, it's time for me to get serious about what drivetrain upgrades Ill be performing.
Im pretty sure Im going with a 6.0 LS1, but coming up with the cash for one will take me a bit.
Im also not exactly sure which rear half frame modificatinos Ill have to make, Ill be going with a trianglulated 4 link in the rear.
I would really like to get by without modifying the frame and tubbing but Im not sure that will be possible.

Nice work on cutting out the rust. It's more work but the correct way to do it. Take a look at Hotrod80 trucks in the build section. He gets his truck to hook up very well without frame work.

That's a 89 blazer that I rebuilt the transmission in the background.
I'll check out hotrod80s build to see what he came up with. Thanks
Yeah I was a little pissed off that they didn't fix the rust right.
I figure I'll have the truck for quite some time I plan on giving it to my son when he is old enough to drive or if I sell it at least the next owner knows he's not buying a crime scene.
Plus I just like working on shit so the extra work isn't that bad

Seems to be more donor trucks with decent parts on the left coast. Good luck!

Alright, after everything else in the world ate me alive, Im finally back to thinking about the truck.
Im just gonna build a race truck, the dragway in fontana re-opened after building a soundwall, I really don't care if I ever drive it on the street. Really, that is why I wanted a luv, and Im not going to settle for anythign less than hauling ass down the strip. I've seen lots of trucks on youtube at the strip and most of them are wheelstanding more than I am comforable with.
I'm going with a 4 link, and want to know if anyone has suggestions for 4 link setup / rear shocks for better launches. Also, I dont have access to a truck scale so can anyone who has weighed their truck tell me their setup and about where the center of gravity is? I dont need exact numbers Im just working through a mockup of the mounting points on scratch paper and knowing that I'm close is good enough for the initial plan Im making.
Are wheelstands unavoidable with our trucks because of the lack of weight in the rear, and the way the 4 link has to be setup to get traction?

If anyone has links to videos of their launches that would be great, Id like to see what is possible with our trucks.

Looks like a new luv drag truck is gonna be hitting the strip! (Right where it should be).
Man I love these trucks..

What times are you running? big block, small block?
Did you weight the truck before you fabbed the 4 link?

Your truck looks great man! How much travel do you have on the front end?

She runs the 5.80 index class. Probably weighs about 2600 with driver and thats with all the glass and steel intact. The engine is just a little 383 with a baby nos shot. Coil over shocks in front so travel is about 3 inches.

Got the motor and tranny out, Im taking off the cab this weekend and sandblasting.
Is anyone in southern california interesting in buying the motor/tranny?
It runs ok, I drove it over a 100 miles.
Also, Ive read several places about using the VW glass rubber for the rear window. I've already found the windshield molding on rockauto, does anyone know where to get aftermarket rear window molding on the internet?

Thanks.
I'll be careful for now, but I'm sure its not gonna come out wtihout breaking.
The front already split pretty bad when I removed the windsheild.
By chance does anyone have a link to the one in thailand?

Hey guys,

Does anyone know where to get pre-formed lexan widnshields?
I called Pro Glass, and they do not have a template already for the luv so it will be a custom job for them.
Also, am I using the forum correclty by just posting questions in my build thread or should I start new topics?
Seems like a waste to start new topics, especially because all my questions are related to my build.

I don't know that you will will find a pre formed polycarbonate glass. You can buy some and trim it yourself using a Jig saw and a steady hand. You can use a piece of PVC pipe and let the sheet sit in the sun a while to warm up and roll the sides back over the PVC, being careful so as not to apply a stress crack to give you a little bit of a curve to the ends. Use a center drill bit to make your holes to attach it to the glass opening ( I am assuming you are not going to reuse the rubber gasket< it will be a poor fit). or it will tend to split...

Pro tip, if you are going to install it as above, make it slightly larger than the stock glass so it fits really close to the frame. You can put a flat rubber gasket you can get at most parts stores to make the new glass sit flush. Then get a roll of the 80's GM (think camaro or cavalier) windshield trim and install it to make a clean install.. If you go about an inch from the edge all the way around and tape/cuff it on the inside you can paint it black, and if you use black rivets or flush mount screws that are black to attach it, you will barely see them...

Thanks. Ill give it a shot, and yeah, Im not going to re-use any of the existing window molding at this point, Ill be either riveting or screwing it to the frame.
Im glad you brought up making it flush, I hadn't thought about that, yeah, I want it flush. Thanks for the tip on the 80's trim thats agood idea
