I am in the process of a ground up restoration on an 1980 Luv 4x4. I am amidst the final stages of bodywork and primer. I have been looking for at least two months for replacements for all of the weatherstripping. I searched the forums and only found out of date links/sources. I was able to purchase the windshield rubber through rock auto.com, I got the rear window rubber on order from Japan via EBay. I ordered the door weatherstripping from restoration specialties. Now I am on the hunt for new door window channel and door glass seals (the horazontal ones). Past posts showed that JC Whitney had them, but after asking them on the phone I was told they no longer carry them.

I know I am not the only one who is going through this issue. Please advise, I think I have left few stones unturned in my quest.

Any help is appreciated

Rondog I think at one time attempted to get the channel felt, let's see if he chimes in.

The gentleman I spoke to at restoration specialties said he used to carry more, but stock ran out and he no longer has a pattern to go by. He said that the age of the vehicle is not quite his "specialty" however he seemed more than happy to help in any way. He reffered to the rubber as an extrusion, and that he may already have a mold for that type/size/style, he would just need a sample and would either match it up or build a mold. I mentioned sending my seals all in for him to use as a template to make a "kit" for others. I have full intentions of sending all of mine in for that purpose, even if I already find replacements. The passion for these lil Luv machines will never die, and more will be needing moldings/weatherstripping soon.

Help fill the blanks for me and others;

Door seals: Restoration Specialties @$65 with shipping
Windshield rubber, no chrome strip: Rockauto.com @$55 with shipping
Rear glass rubber, no chrome strip: EBay, Japan seller @$90 with shipping
Hood seal: plain beaded rubber welting, EBay motors @$???
Door window channels: ?
Waist seals (exterior): ?
Door window interior side: ?

Side note-

Interior sun visors ?
Dashboard ?

I got door seal and window channel from Restoration Spec. Same scenario, I sent him a piece of my old, he sent me a few different choices, I picked one and told him how many feet. But it sounds like he might not the variety he used to. What I got was not an exact match, but close enough for my truck.

Thanks for the replies so far, I hope someone has a for positive difinitave answer. I do not need an exact match, I suspect that the newer materials will stand up better to the test of time than oem.

This is my first Luv, although every ranch I worked on as a kid had a fleet of them. I am now a Luv addict. I purchased the 1980 4x4 for $850 not caring about its condition. I knew I would be replacing or repairing everything anyway. I drove it for a while and it acquired a miss shortly after a tuneup. It severely needed a clutch kit anyway, so I yanked the 1.8 and got to work. 4 months and several thousand dollars later, I am just days away from it sporting fresh body work and a two tone paint job. Once I do I intend on posting pictures for everyone to enjoy or inspire.

Thanks again for the help, I've been a lurker for a while but I believe this was my first post. Thank you all for the warm welcome!

Has anyone been able to find out any new info? After a brief sick period I am back to work on my project. I hope to be painting in a few days time, and still haven't found any replacement window channel molding

quarterborefan perhaps you could check with a local upholstery shop for the window molding.
If you get the Window channels for the door, can you post some pics? I replaced mine, but I had a shop that does sheet metal work make new ones based on the old ones.

A couple of years ago I posted about the window channels [with felt] that I got from JC Whitney. I had hoped to have my posting get into the archives but now I cannot figure out how to retrieve from the archives. Any way, the product I got was perfect for my 77 door windows and they are well worth the price. They have a small chrome bead along both sides and the glass fits like brand new!! I substantially cut down on the wind flow and the exterior noise coming into the cab. I say again...they fit the channel opening nice and tight and they fit the glass well too. I wouldn't even look for any other.

OK, I found my old post from May 12, 2010 [6:43 pm]. If you can get there, be sure to read it as I detailed everything about how I made the channel swap out. If not, these are the numbers that came with the JCWhitney order. Location R-01-82-F6, MFG part no.:75000096, Item no.:184852 steel core window channel, Price[2] $69.97 includes shipping. You won't regret this product.
