You can. Is it a automatic or manual transmission? If I was to tow one for over a couple hundred miles I would pull the driveshaft even if it was a manual.

Is the LUV being towed or doing the towing?

I am not a big fan on towing with a LUV. it's hard on the truck and the brakes will struggle stopping both. Not safe of you ask me.

agreed, our brakes aren't up to stopping a lot of weight, but if you have to do it with your luv make sure you give yourself plenty of room to stop, and like luvrv8 said make sure you disconnect the towed luvs driveline or the bearings In the trans can be damaged being spun without lubrication.
let it cool off any time you stop at a rest area etc that little motor will have to work really hard to pull twice the weight so make sure you give it plenty of breaks on the way.
even with just my dirtbikes, gear, gas, passenger and such I get my brakes cooking pretty good on a downhill. 1000 miles towing another truck is going to be really hard on yours

You are all spoiled girls.

Hook that shit up and tow it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol

It will do it.
Ive towed more with less.

For stability and towabilty I would go a nice light weight car trailer thats been made for a medium sized car over a dolly. An electric braked trailer would be even better.

Youve got a luv. Pull the front bar off, make up your own to take an A frame and flat tow it.
Will be fine if you take it steady.

I like your style, rodeobob. With that being said, those of us that tend to plan using 'reasonably adequate margins' instead of 'positive control' better either have a secret weapon or a good explanation when shit hits the fan.

This seems to accomplish both...

I must say, you Americans are spoiled.
All the F trucks, Dodges and Chevs. Thats what they are for but you don't actually need one.

Down here you just run what you brung.

Not sure about a luv, but the towing capacity for a TF is 1800kg braked.
Im sure I looked through the workshop manual, but I couldnt find any mention.

My old KB pulled well over that on many occasion.

I used my 4x4 79 luv to tow a 16ft car trailer with another 80 luv on it from Va to Nc. Trailer had brakes so stopping wasn't an issue. Was able to stay around 65 mph most of the trip. I say go for it. Luv all the way.!!!!

I have worked on the freeways for many years, I can't tell you how many times I have seen accidents where trucks were towing too much behind them. One really sticks out in my mind, a half ton towing a big concrete pump, we had to get a crane out to lift the pump off of the cab, part of the body was in the pump and part stayed in the cab. With that said towing with the right equipment is overrated. Rondog does a lot of over weight and over sized towing, that's why his choice of rigs is a 9 axel.

Are you sure you're not mixing towing capacity with GVWR?? My brochure says my GVWR is 3950lbs, which is exactly (or about 8kg shy of) your tow rating, suggesting you either made the classic mixup, or the trucks down under are rated to haul almost 4 times as much weight as ours in the states.

The brochure continues:
GVWR - 3950/1792kg
Net Payload - 1080lbs/489kg
Gross Payload - 1460lbs/662kg (includes driver, passenger, cargo, and equipment)

resurrecting this thread. before it was a 'maybe' and now its a 'gotta get it done'

i have an 87 turbo diesel pup spacecab in seattle i am driving home (http://www.ebay.com/itm/1987-Isuzu-Dies ... 1133857087), need to get another disabled spacecab from portland to reno. am driving right past it with the turbo diesel.....

best option? uhaul doesnt rent trailers with electric brakes and i hear their policy is not to rent car haulers to people without full size trucks. i can pull a fast one and have the person selling me the car rent the trailer with their full size truck but am concerned with not hving electric brakes. ive got two long downgrades. I5 near CA/OR border and then north of susanville on 395. i guess i can go 25 mph in 2nd gear and take it easy on these. otherwise im driving back up and doing a second trip with a real truck. seller of disabled cab will meet me in klamath so thats 4.5 hours each way vs making a 10 hour trip from portland to reno

alternatively i can have him tow the disabled truck to klamath and then flat-tow or tow dolly it the last 4 hours to reno....

I believe the uhual trailers have surge brakes that should work alright when heavy braking. I would be more worried about handling , kinda like the tail wagging dog if ya know what I mean? But dont listen to me I once towed a full sized mobile home with a 1/2 to chevy van.
