Replacing OEM Fuel Filter/Water Separator with Duramax

1st time in 30 plus years my LUV would not start--!!! –( Not used very much anymore)---
I trouble shot the Solenoid and putting 12 volts to it , clicked OK. I moved on to the filter and pump assembly. It would not pump any fuel. I purchased a marine/boat primer bulb and placed it in series to the filter IN. Truck started OK.
So I, assumed the filter assembly leaked down and filled with air. Mine is an Isuzu replacement item that never really pumped fuel, always was a chore to get started after filter change.
Seeing that an Duramax filter would interchange I ordered one from ebay (Suburban Chev) $121.00.-free shipping-no tax. –item as advertised---.
***** BUT !, BUT ! the fuel lines are 1/2 inch Diameter. Mounting holes line up Ok and are the same diameter and threads per inch.******
I purchased 3/8 inch Gates Barricade hose -----(recommended by local diesel shop)-----(not the fuel injection hose ----$2.29 ft—O’reilly’s Auto)---and stretched to attach (after cutting off the nipple on the ends) to filter, otherwise it is impossible to slip hose on.
Then using hard stainless tubing I had on hand attached to 5/16 Gates Barricade fuel hose then to the engine and fuel supply.
Secure with worm clamps. Pump up until diesel flows at the bleed hole/screw. (took about 65 pumps on a dry filter)----Run, Re-Bleed---maybe injector lines also----??? as needed.
BE AWARE !!!!!---The required tubing is larger than 5 /16 and smaller than 3/8 in ---very difficult to locate.
Hope this helps someone.

Added Sun 10-13-2013..I drove the truck today and new Duramax fuel filter installation worked flawlessly,.excellent inexpensive fix. Thanks again to whomever came up with this great fix. !!! Pictures on the isuzupup.com diesel page site...
