Been looking through all the threads about grinding cams, boring blocks, etc etc and I'd really like to replace a few things. I just don't know where to start.

I want to go to an electronic ignition, but don't know what/where to look. I tend to get confused searching and looking through all the different brands and types that people can use. I for sure want to get a weber, but am curious if I can buy any one that's 32/36? If I found one on ebay from say, a bmw, or mercedes, could i use it because it's the 32/36? I want to replace the intake with an offy, and possibly see about getting a new header, but am confused on what I should get that would be the best bang for my buck. I'd also like to invest in a new fan, as I've read that helps quite a bit. Any other relatively cheap ways to increase the HP? I always wanted to swap out the engine, but I've grown to love the truck as a whole, so the g180 has to stay.

the electronic ignition can come from a pertronix system, or the stock distributor from the 85ish pup, you can buy the pup one from rockauto or ebay, pertronix seems to be the more common swap.

not sure of the webers there are a couple different types, manual choke, electronic or hot water choked. the 32/36 should be more or less the same but you may need to change the jetting.

In this thread (http://forums.luvtruck.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=26698&p=198952&hilit=pertronix#p198115), user 'eyesore' says the Pertronix catalog specifies model 1643 for 78-80 LUV's. If you can, go with the II over the I. As I understand it, these systems can be ruined if you mistakenly leave your igntion in the 'on' position while the truck isn't running. The II has a built-in safeguard to prevent you from burning it up in case you forget.

-Weber: kit K696 comes with the adapter to mount to your stock manifold. It's the 32/36 DGEV carb (electric choke). The Offy manifold does not require the manifold adapter.
-Header: Pacesetter #70-1105 with square ports (some may list the #70-1125, but this is the round port model for 2.3/2.6 engines).
-Cam: Delta Cams. They are re-grinds, you'll probably have to supply a blank. The 270 grind would be good, power gains start at about 2500rpms.
-Distributor: '84-'87 1.9L G200Z engines (Trooper or pickup) had electronic distributors that eliminated the points, it's a direct swap into a G180, probably simpler, possibly cheaper than the Petronix.
-Flywheel: '80-'83 4x4 1.8L or '84-'87 1.9L (2x or 4x) uses an 8-1/2" clutch instead of your 8".
-Engine: 1.9L G200Z is a direct bolt-in replacement, will give a slight but noticeable power increase over the stock G180Z. All the 1.8 goodies fit the 1.9 as well.
-Head: using a G180 head on a G200 block will boost compression about one full point.
-Tranny: MSG 5sp from an '86-'95 2wd pickup with the 2.3L 4ZD1 engine will give better highway rpms, requires a matching slip yoke & tranny support relocation.

awesome, thank you for this. I'll be looking into the carb, header, dist, and possibly the cam.
