hey guys,

pardon me, this has probably been asked before and answered, but I couldn't find it in my searching (feel free to post a link to where the info is if so).

I have a 79' 4x4. I want to remove as much vacuum and emissions stuff as possible. Not because I hate the environment, but because I want my truck to be as simple as possible. It is an off-road truck, so no worries about emissions inspections etc.

The truck has headers on it, and the spots where the smog pump goes down into the cyl have already been plugged by previous owner.

The thermal vacuum valve is broken (as seen in the pic below)

I have attached the diagram also. What can I remove/plug so that I only have the essentials?

My last LUV truck (80 2wd) I had headers/offy/and weber. I kind of wish I had all that back again because I only had one single vac line on that and it went to the advance and that was it. This 4x4 has the Hitachi, stock intake etc... but it does have headers.

Thanks, Pictures for reference:

Hi...I have a77 LUV stocker and my thermal vacuum valve also broke when I pulled the engine to rebuild it. I never could find a LUV replacement[ not listed] but I just went to NAPA and ordered one for a 77 toyota and they were the same. Don

See those two ports in the bottom picture with vacuum hoses that come off the carb base? Either cap these ports or loop a short piece of vacuum line from one to the other to plug them, then remove any thing that was connected to the two lines.
Basically you must have good manifold vacuum to the distributor and the brake booster. I also have the branched line that connects to the bottom of the air cleaner & anything fuel related still connected but that's about it, all the other lines and the equipment they were attached to are long gone.

Leave the distributor vacuum connected somewhere, it does not necessarily need to be that exact spot. As long as you can feel vacuum by putting your thumb over the end of the hose when the engine is running that'a good enough.
