does anyone know how much it would cost me to get a new windshield and have it put in for a LUV? 'Cause I don't know anything about windshields.

thanks

Jess

one more thing,

if I found a windshield in good shape is there anyone in the Seattle/Tacoma/Everett/wherever area that knows how to put them in and would do it for free or a small fee? (I'm a college student so that means I haven't got much $)

thanks again

Jess

Not sure on the price on the glass, but I called to see how much they wanted to pull the windshield, replace rubber, install windshield. 3 places said $150 + cost of the seal and no guaranty against breakage on removal or install.

I took one out myself and got it out in one piece. You won't be able to save the rubber gasket though. It's glued to the glass & the body. I had to take a utility knife and cut the heck out of mine, but the glass came right out.

I bought a new rubber for about 45.00 and I had a glass from another truck. The best way to get one out and not break the glass is to cut the rubber. I paid 40.00 today for him to come to my house and install the glass. I was amazed when I took mine out that it has NO rust under the rubber. The truck I got the glass from was rusted out and I figured mine would be too.

Probably not LUV-specific, but you could look at anything from the late 60's/early 70's and get the right idea. There would certainly be enough old VW folks out there for a tutorial like that to need to exist.
