Well , i dropped it off today . I had paid for the tubing already and was in line after Lamar's Nova to have a bar done . My wife convinced me it need to be done for safety reasons . 12 point Chromemoly cage custom bent and tig welded . Certified to 8.50 with swing out and removable door bars . This will add 77# to the truck . It will be installed so later if i decide it can be removed and the truck cab will not be cut up . The bars will also have motor plate tabs hidden behind the fenderwells . Room for coilovers if i decide to remove the torsion bar stuff , yet retain the stock suspension and get m 77#'s back .

Ended up runner up last weekend

Very cool. I need to put a cage in mine. No need for it yet, but one day it'll need it. Post up pics of how he does the cage. I've been visualizing how I'm gonna do it, but would like to see some actual work

Mine are like that @ the dash. My down bars exit above the window though, for headroom purposes...

That's looking good. Is he welding the cage directly to the frame? I was wanting to keep my bed and cab removable.

Yea , direct to the frame . It is my understanding it has to be for the 8.50 cert . He is filling the spots that he cut out with butt welded filler peices . Double swing out door bars with A.R.T door bars kits .

Our builds are quite a bit different and if we ever got next to each other i would have to have land from that tube chassis truck of yours  .

[Update ; got it out of the chassis shop . I am happy with the work but have some fine tuning to do . It had grinding dust everywhere so i clay bar'd the truck before anything then washed it . The rear window is tinted lexan . I could only use 1 swing out door bar and 8.50 cert so there is one on the driverside . Front glass is scheduled for this afternoon , as i cleaned up the window tracks and painted them . Here are the pics . Have not gotten the cert sticker yet as there are a list of 6 cars in the area that are going to split the travel fees and meet up with the inspector .

HPT truck shootout . Went a few rounds . Made adjustments after every round as the truck is way different with the cage . I was the smallest tire in the event and on a DOT with a street truck . All others were bracket race trucks . 80 % of the trucks there were street trucks with hard tires . I was at a huge disadvantage , but i made a few passes and got a few things lined out . Really have to look to even see the bars in it . Also got interveiwed and pictures taking and might be in street trucks magazine as they were covering the event .

Yea Danial was the next in line right lane . That was what i was dealing with . Even a 29.5 x 10.5 true is big compared to a 28 x 9 . It went 11.11 and backed it with a 11.09 on motor through mufflers . Needed to be 10.99 or quicker to be in the show , so what did i do?.................

Open the bottle ! . I put the small pills in it and downloaded the tune up for 100 and went 10.46 and backed it up with a 10.42 . It stayed between 10.42-46 all night like a bracket car . truck is coming around and was consistant enough to go more rounds , but i was tired , sunburnt and really ready to get out of there cause it was pretty crazy . The people were wild acting and it had been a long day .

They had a 4 car pile up in Baytown that killed a boy running 130 mph in a truck leaving their . People doing dough nuts / burnouts in the pits . cops and beer cans everywhere . pretty crazy

wow...sounds like it was a little chaotic out there....that's what will kill good events!
I think you are on the right track with the nitrous setup we learned that in the final at hmp when we blew the tires off at the hit,low bottle pressure and you put that other tire on it should be good to go.the truck ran best time with me and my limited tuning abilities on 800psi with 63 pills square and went 6.39 and 6.40 spinning a little down the track on that 9" tire, so with the wider ET tire you should do well.Give me a call when you can and let me know what's on the menu for this weekends event so i can get to the grocery store and get them vittles!
