Hello all. This recently acquired Luv is giving me problems (imagine that). The fuel pump will not run with key on. Found the relay and there is key switch power there. Fuel pump runs if i jumper the relay. Followed the wiring diagram as best as i can. Diagram shows a wire going to the voltage regulator. Decided to unplug the regulator to check power to it from the relay---Low and behold-- the fuel pump runs-- but only while regulator unplugged. Has anyone ever had this situation ? does this indicate that maybe the regulator is faulty ?

thanks for any responses and help

Yes, the vr controls the relay...

Egg has posted unplugging the VR as a limp home in case of alternator failure. I would be quite surprised if anything he posted didn't work. Not sure why it would work.

On the 6 wire plug from the VR white red = W = fuel pump and charge light, white = W = ignition, white blue = B = battery, black = E = earth, British for ground, white black = F = field, the stem of the Tee connector to the alternator, and white green = N feeds back to the VR.

If you have 6-7 volts on the white green from the alternator, a working VR will switch 12 volts to the white red wire turning off the ''C'' light and energizing the coil of the fuel pump relay. So get your volt meter and track down the problem. Jumping the relay may run the fuel pump, but not solve other problems.

Thanks for the information. I dont know what has happened, but the darned thing is running now. It seems that i will be able to get some good information from this site. There is a lot of work to do to this old LUV. Going to be fun to bring it back to life.

Thanks again -- Bonestock
