New to me Luv Diesel. I need to reseal the IP or have my IP rebuilt. I'm having trouble finding a source for parts and a rebuilder for the IP. :econfused I've tried several searches here, but I must not be going about it properly. Info / help on IP rebuilding appreciated.

Some of the seals can be replaced at home. The CSD seals, and the throttle seal, for example. The head seal requires a special wrench, but if you could get the wrench you could replace that one. However, after 30 years, it could probably use more than just new seals.

I recommend a complete rebuild. It really can't be done without special tools and test equipment. When I had mine done a few months ago, they found that the input shaft had worn down and was just out of tolerance. They had a new bushing machined to fit, and they did a fantastic job. The shop offers a $50 discount to IsuzuPup.com members, and they had pretty fast turnaround. The work was actually done by one of our members who works at the shop part-time, and arranged for the discount.

Here's the "after" shot of my pump before they returned it to me. Note they replaced the Cold Start Device with a VW manual one, because the Isuzu CSD was really troublesome. That's a $100 "extra" they offer.

Joe has the correct information, going thru Isuzu Pup.com is the only way I know of to get anything done for one of these pumps. The original pumps and parts are no longer available, no one makes them anymore. I searched for months trying to find someone to rebuild mine and could not find one any place. I finally sold the engine to a farmer in ID to put on his irigation pump! He didn't care if it leaked a little. Don't mean to discourage you, just pointing out how difficult it is to find one. Perhaps someone on Isuzu Pup will start rebuilding them?
Good luck, dp

I've Used AR Fuel Injection for rebuilding my Injection pump and also my injectors. Nice helpful folks . They re-did my injectors while I watched and waited.
They also recommended using Stanadyne Performance Formula Junior Additive to prolong IP life. 2oz to 15 gallon.

Hope this helps......

That pump is for a turbodiesel and has a tach sender. Wow!

Good price, too.

The tach sensor was also used on the Cali trucks for emissions.

Can someone tell me what the orifice is in the bottom right of IP photo IMG 0492.JPG? It has the plate held on by four screws, a metal fuel line going into the top and what looks like a set screw between the fuel line and the IP main body. My pump is leaking badly (full tank lasts 1 week instead of 3) and I think its the gasket under the plate

Cold Start Device ("CSD"). I've never heard of one leaking THAT badly. I apologize in advance for redirecting traffic to my site, but someone just posted a very detailed topic that is EXACTLY what you need.
Changing CSD Seals in LUV with Pictures...

No problem, I'll let you know if that fixes the problem, if not I may have a split or pin hole where the fuel line connects to the CSD. The leak seems to start at the top of the CSD

Thank You

Jack

Any idea who "Paul" is. What would I ask the local parts guy for, a CSD Seal Kit for my 1982 Diesel 4 X 4 LUV?

"Paul" is the name (and username) of a member of the site. I think you're also a member. You could send him a PM. Or you can get the part number off the photos (the ones at the bottom) and ask your local parts guy for that.

Thanks again Jack
Do you know anyone in a colder climate that has disabled the CSD. I have to use a block heater when the temp gets below 38 degrees already and am wondering if that would help with the "harder starting in the cold without a CSD" problem?

Glen

Glen, the CSD is supposed to help with cold starts, so disabling it would not help. However, mine has been disabled for a few years now. I've had no trouble starting, even down to the 20's. If you're having trouble with it below 38°, maybe something else isn't quite right. You can test this by temporarily disabling it. Remove the spring (as outlined in the topic that I linked to), and replace the banjo bolt on top of the CSD with a solid one that will fit tightly.

Thanks Jack,
I've ordered a gasket kit through Paul and once it arrives I'll try disabling the CSD.
My next project is finding a short that's between the fuse block and the dash, only half my dash has power (no heater fan or horn) all the fuses test as good. Late Fall seems to be when things break on my LUV.
