THat sounds like one helluva transmission build. I might have to save this post and pick your brain when I get ready to give this a try. The price on your drive shaft isn't bad at all. Actually sounds like a smokin deal.

Bearing clearances are within spec, got the thrust where I want it, crank is in, rings are on pistons, cam/lifters/dogbone/spider are on...

A newbie, I have aquired a 72 chevy luv truck w/out and engine amd trans. I also got a 4.3L 262 engine w/carb and a powergulide trans. What I am wanting to do is build it for bracket racing, can any one tell me what to do about the rear end an what to do to rear suspension.

With the 4.3, all you need is slapper bars, unless you turbo it. stock rear end is marginal, but a 4.3 shouldn't break it. turbo 350 with the v6 would be the best bet for a tranny, IMO...

Well, finally got it together, what a PITA...

Image

And it looks exactly like what it is, a bone stock Vortec 350 with a 4 barrel intake, (I have an adapter plate for the throttle body)
Should slightly increase the horsepower over the stock 4 banger, lol...

And here is a crappy pic of the hybrid driveshaft connecting the 700r to the stock Nissan rear end...

There's nothing wrong with a stock 350. The Nissan that you are using as a tow rig will probably be able to whip alot of a$$ at the track if needed.

Man, what a PITA this thing is. I am slowly coming along with it. All the big stuff is done now with the exception of the wiring. No room for a fan anywhere without moving something, so I am leaning towards remote mounting the ac condensor under the truck, since I have to run new lines anyway. Looking at a hi flow Spal pusher, (absolutely no way for a puller unless I mod the core and move the radiator out, still don't think it would allow room for one to fit, plus, I would have to run hood pins, which I hate...) I have the 2002 blazer shifter and console in, transmission lines ran, etc. All I need underneath now is a nut for the trans mount stud, and the starter mounted and wired, once I finish fabbing yet another crossmember. None of the brackets for the tbi stuff fit straight across on the 4 barrel intake, so all of them are being modded. I have to figure out how to intergrate the stock nissan temp sender so the gauge will work, (probably just drill and tap the intake) and see about getting the Nissan speedo cable modded with a chebbie drive end. Also, need to mod the stock Nissan gas pedal to accept the throttle cable I removed from the donor 'burban...

More crappy pics, lol...

This is the new engine in, mostly...

Image

Here is a pic of the tranny crossmember I fabbed installed, and the PITA parking brake cables/levers installed on some brackets I fabbed after cutting out the center of the original trans crossmember to make room for the longer tailshaft on the 700r...

Image

Other crossmember I made removeable, to make room for the new one piece driveshaft, which you can somewhat glimpse. I ain't happy with this one, and will fab up another, snazzier one eventually...

Among other things I am doing, I fabbed the adjustable cross member to replace the other. Sorta had to, the oil pan was hitting it...

OK, except for the fans, which have yet to arrive. All the hard parts are installed. I am currently trying to get the Nissan wiring intergrated with the chebbie. Once I get that like I want it, I will move on to the the TBI computer. All that will be left then is getting the exhaust run, and remote mounting the AC condensor and getting the lines made for that...

Update is lazy azz owner needs to finish it, lol...

I think(hope) I have the GM wiring figured out. Got to install an oil pressure sender for the gm and wire it up and see what is what. Unfortunately, I am working seven days a week, just changed shifts, remodeling a house, gym, etc. So...

Also u cant just use a vortec dist as that acts as a cam sensor it only has one tooth count thru the hall sensor.. And is use in conjunction with the crank sensor which is a 4 tooth reluctor wheel all this to control full sequential injection.. For tbi or tpi all uneed is a 8pin hei dist.. And this gives u bank to bank or batch fire injection

Thanks, I really needed to update the thread anyway. I got it running, somewhat. I am thrashing on my 'garage', then I plan on making the wiring pretty and doing the exhaust, then pulling the LUV in and going through it to see if it needs anything.
