 Post subject: crankshaft interchange

Basic question here. Is the crankshaft from the early 73, 74, 75 non-crossflow head 1.8l engine, interchangeable with the 1976 and later crossflow head 1.8l engine. I need to replace my 74 crank and they are not available in my area. However, 76 and later cranks are quite common. Thanks for the input, dan...

You can send your old crank to a machine shop that does crank welding to build a bad main or rod jopurnal back into spec.

Believe it or not, the last owner replaced the clutch and used standard thread bolts instead of metric and cross threaded all the crank/flywheel bolt holes. They fired it up and wondered how it seemed to have developed a rod knock. I tore it down and found all the crank/flywheel bolts finger loose. The crank threads did not clean up well. .dan...

bore to the next size and re-tap? thats about all i can think of
