Yanking the motor and tranny this upcoming weekend. This summer when I was driving it everyday I noticed that when I would first start the truck it would blow a little bit of blue smoke and anytime I would cob on it it would really put out some blue smoke. What has me confused is that I had put a new headgasket on the truck in June... so what could this possibly be that is causing this smoke. I know its oil because it burns through it. It has 70000 miles on the original motor. So what are your thoughts as to what could be causing the excess burning of oil. Any insight and suggestions are appreciated. Thanks
Jeremy

I don't know much about the stock 4 cylinders, but it sounds like it could be the intake valve stem seals or valve guides.

valve stem seals, if the blue smoke goes away when it warms up not bad valve steam seal are tried.

i had the same problem but i was getging blowby into the head.
so what i come to look at was
1. head gasket (you already said it couldnt be that)
2. cracked head or block
3.broken ring
4. what the other guys said.
after i took mine apart i found out i just had a broken ring. thank god i didnt do any damage i replaced the ring did a little extra work and now she runs like a bat out of hell!!!!
