I love the 231, or the 252.
BUT... they are not for the faint of heart. They are EXPENSIVE to build, as well as there prone to throw fits because they can. They are a tolerance sensitive motor and require lots of attention to keep alive at serious power levels.
Funny thing though, in regular non turbo form - you would be lucky to make 350hp if you spent 5 grand building it. There design is based around turbo use and without it, they cant breathe! a properly tuned STOCK turbo V6 engine will hold to 700hp for awhile before the pistons crack.

i found forged aluminum pistons for it on summit to deal with the cracking. but a turbo 231 would be a great fit for that lil luv dont ya think?
i may be picking up a SC-14 (roots) supercharger for my LUV (to put on the G180. seeing as its brand new rebuilt from a new block and head all the way up. might as well boost it and run it for a year or two till it dies while i upgrade the rest of i)
with the emissions delete taking off the air pump/pulley/mount it leaves a bit more room for a second pulley for the charger and a belt tensioner. its my daily driver so i would rather run a supercharger than a turbo for heat, budget and off the start power, as well as the ease of instillation for me.
also going back to college for machining tech. so aluminum pulleys, mounts and all kinds of shiny custom billet goodness are becoming available. second quarter i can start CNC
and build up a 231 in the mean time till i get a hold of a 2wd luv to put it in

luvs are getting cheap on CL around here
