Well, it blew through, no rain at the track 30 minutes away. So I got in 3 passes. First pass, no burnout as I couldn't get the line-loc to hold. Second pass was a turd as the carb gassed the plugs. (Sitting mostly for 2 years, not the carbs fault...) Third one was the charm. Launched hard and straight on motor. Couldn't get stopped before the return road, which has NEVER happened on motor before. Get to the time shack, the computer malfunctioned, so no timeslip... :smt013 That was my last pass as there was something bumping underneath as I drove back down the return road. It was late, so I called it a night. All in all, better than I expected, nothing broke. That I know of, unless the mystery noise turns out to be something. I do know my archrival was parked next to me, and after that third pass, he looked in my truck and didn't see a bottle in it when I returned. The noise I heard about a little grudge earlier run got VERY quiet...

Also, the alt. setup worked flawlessly, and the vacuum pump setup pulled 12 hg. So something went right at least...

If you click the link below, to the left at the top there is a small set of rotating pics of some of the cars at the race. I am the 3rd from the end and also the last pic, I think. You can right click, on the gif, click on zoom, and hit full screen to see larger pics. WARNING! There is some serious smack talk and strong language on the page, not kid safe!

My mystery noise turned out to be a broken bolt holding the right rear coilover. It was allowing the spring plate to hit the bracket...

(*&^%@(*&^$( Brakes! I have fooled with them for the last 2 weeks, trying to get a few test passes in before my track rental. New master cylinder bad, and brittle stock brake lines drove me nucking futs! It's all good now though...

Man, looong time, no update...

I put on a race, which I lost to a BBC LUV, (632 cubes and 3 stages, stuck transbrake let him get 4 on me, I caught 2 back up, no high gear on shift or it would have been interesting...) due to the brakes and subsequent tranny issue in OCT. of last year. I reworked the front end with the DHP tubular control arms and mustang II spindles and wilwood discs, solved the brake issues, I think. Subsequent race found the tranny was toast under load, worked fine as long as you were just puttering around. Pulled the tranny and repaired, test-n-tune will commence at first available opportunity...

Since the LUV a arm cross shaft is on a different center than most of the rest of the world, I had to do some modding. I sectioned it this much...

Image

Since the new cross shaft is made from tubing, I cut a piece of round stock and machined it to interference fit inside, beveled the edges, tacked the bottom of the bevel to the round stock in the center in a series of stitch welds with the mig, then made 3 passes to fill in the bevel. I used the stock centershaft as a jig by bolting the 2 shafts together to be sure the holes were both centered and parallel. After it cooled completely, I used a file to bring the weld down to roughly the same diameter as the tubing, stripped the plating off the entire cross shaft, and gave it a few coats of black primer. This is the finished product (except for color, not sure what yet) on the arm on the right. The one on the left is a set of tubulars I am using for measurements.

Image

This is how much I have in change on the ball joint center right now (rough guess) should be plenty of adjustment now though...
