This is a 1980 2wd luv, all stock. SToped running one day after a big rain storm. Redid alot & believe I may have a dead short somewhere which is preventing any spark. What is this box? Could it cause a dead short or no good spark? It is in a spot where alot of rain water run's off it. Also there seems to be a few wires cut at it's location & they are corroding...not covered at all.

o.k. cool! Just wondering as I am very curious as to if there is any device that acts like a ecu (engine computer) on this stock Luv.

O.K. I'm super stumped with this dead short somewhere. 12.52 DC volts with all switches off & all battery cables clamped to posts(But the heater has no off switch). Then the following with the neg. cable off the batt. post, with a volt meter touching the batt. post(-) and the other lead on the clamp of the ground cable, making sure not to touch anything with the neg. cable clamp.
(Ignition Switch) (Voltage-DC)
Off 12.25
Acc 12.40
On 12.47
Start 12.47

Check your regulator that is connected to your alternator. Mounted on the driver side fender. Mine burned the terminal off and the truck quite.

I inspected the voltage regulator and all looks well. The windings have no break in them. Something somewhere I believe is grounding out somehow since there seems to be power running back into the grounding circuit of the truck, making it impossible to get spark from the coil.

Go to the fuse box and pull off all the inputs, battery, Ignition, accessories, lights, and anything else. If that relieves the short, put them back on one at a time checking for the short. If not, check every inch of the cable to the starter and the 2 going to the fuse box.

Could be. My 77 doesn't have anything that looks like that. The Stak-cons didn't come from the factory.

Pulled all the fuses from the fuse box. I"m getting 1.5 vdc from the neg. battery post & the ground battery cable. Does this mean the dead short is in one of the fused circuits or should I keep looking. Also all the connections to the fuse box and fuse clips are super icky & corroded so gonna clean them off the best I can & then put 1 fuse in at a time to see what voltage readins I get from that. Then will check the starter wires & then the wires running to the fuse box from the battery. I noticed I see no inline fuses. Is this normal?

First, clean the fuse box connections. Do a search for a thread here with lemon juice to soak the terminals in, it will tell you how to disassemvle the fuse box. Then check it after reassembling before you do anything else...

will check the article to clean the fuse box up. I did use a dremel with the wire brush lightly and the clips and plating looks good so far. Just stuck on how to clean the wire connectors that plug into the fusebox terminals. They are so bad. Damn! Will do this, then report back about my findings or changes, if any.

Done. So now at 5.5 vdc without any fuses in. Then put 1 in at a time & the voltage never changed until I put the horn fuse in, then it went to 10.5 vdc, then when the tail fuse was put in, it went to 11.5 vdc. Now where?
