There's no reason why that wouldn't work. TBI setups are dirt cheap and if you yank a whole system out of a vehicle, you need little else. The fuel pressure regulator is in the throttle body itself and you already have a fuel return line on the truck. Wire in a good fuel pump with a relay (can't use the stock stuff anymore because the fuel pump needs to run when the engine is not), replace the rubber fuel hoses with ones rated for EFI and you'd almost be ready to turn the key. Also, you already have a source of vacuum for the MAP sensor, which can mount anywhere.

The tricky part is finding a way to condition the ignition signal for use with the GM computer. If you actually pick up a TBI system, I'd be more than willing to help you figure out a way to do it. Once I return from the land of the big desert, I plan on attempting this one myself.

well it turns out i have the fuel pump out of a john deere tractor in my LUV as well as the actual ignition/key and aparently the flow and everything on the pump are the same or very close to the stock one. idk but my engine had 269,000 miles on it when i bought the truck and it was still pulling 26mpg before the timing set went.. or so i was told and i have no reason to doubt the previous owner the truck was his pride and joy before the timing set went.
and now i have the new engine ready to go hundreds of thousands more miles, but i would like it to go those miles with some more power.

what im looking for is either impulse or rodeo EFI/ECU
or
the TBI from... basically any early to mid 80's GM/Isuzu 4cyl engine along with the ECU and sensors for a direct swap without the extra hours and hours of modifying everything to fit and function.
i will probobly go wit the TBI setup since it is more readily available and more than likely A LOT cheaper to get my hands on

and does anyone know where i could find a air/fuel mix sensor??? that would be incredibly convenient when i go to tune the setup later on... or do one of the listed donor vehicles happen to have one???

Air/Fuel mix sensor? I assume you mean Oxygen Sensor. If you pull a whole system from a vehicle, you can use the O2 sensor from the donor, but a brand new replacement doesn't cost much (like $20). If you're looking for a "bolt on and go" system, the Impulse FI system is probably your best bet. Where you would find a complete system these days is beyond me, unless you are fortunate enough to find an 80's Impulse lying around. Either system will require hours of work to get up and running and a bit of fabrication. I would personally stick with a TBI system, because parts are more readily available.

(no idea why i cant just pick a path and stick to it...
most effective would obviously be to just keep the G180 going with a TBI setup
then i realised Izusu also happens to be the oldest manufacturer of automotive diesel engines that still operates to this day... so if i could find a mid sized isuzu diesel i could make the transition to one badass lil diesel truck (not the 2.2) i refuse to use a chevy made diesel due to how unreliable the blocks are. but an isuzu would be a great swap.
eh what do i know im 18?
anyway for now defiantly just going to fix the body damage i got recently. fix up the G180 and and setup the TBI and run it till the engine just cant go anymore then i will consider a V8 or diesel swap i guess

I have a complete gm 2.5 TBI system forsale, just needs the pump and lines. All setup to be used on another engine (i was planning on using it in my old ford tractor but I got a V860!) And for a little more money, i can burn the chip to match the 1.8.

im also on the gemini site and the big recommendation im getting is for a 2.6 intake off a rodeo (or pizzaza but whence last i checked that was never an american vehicle... trooper? and a T28 turbo, and with a setup like that they are able to push 200+ horsepower at the wheels with stock internals.

i had never even looked into the opels it should have been obvious that was the same as a gemini!

does anyone happen to have any tips for the LUV for a road trip from washington to north dakota and back??? (1208 miles each way)
i just plan on doing a nice 55mph slow ride all the way there but im wondering if there are any things i need to be looking out for before i take out to avoid problems.
*my engine is basically brand new as well as all the belts, head gasket, oil filter and oil, and a fairly new radiator.(all yet to be assembled but that will be taken care of over the weekend and maybe the first few days in the week.
(i WILL be taking a lot of pictures of the whole process for a new thread)
im going to replace the fluid in the diff and tranny. and give it plenty of time to rest at the rest areas and check the coolant regularly.
alternator and starter have been checked and the better of the 2 of each is being installed

but i wont be able to do the EFI swap till after i get back so im wondering if there is anything else i need to be on the lookout for?? i think i have my bases covered but im not a LUV expert so if there are any weak links i would love to know before its too late and im stranded in montana


ok and what are the LUVtruck recommended fluids???
i know you all have the fluids mixes down to a science.
what would yu recommend for...
tranny, rear/front diff, engine oil?

As long as your engine is in decent mechanical shape, which apparently it is, you should be fine. Long trips like that are way easier on engines than stop-and-go commuting. Considering the age of the truck though, I'd make sure I had a spare tire, jack, lug wrench and a set of tools "just in case". When I make San Diego-Seattle runs (which happens more often than I'd like), I always inspect the brakes, get the wheel alignment checked and make sure all the lugnuts are tight before heading out. I don't have my shop manual on me right now, but I'm pretty sure the tranny takes 10W30, not gear oil like you'd expect and the rearend takes 90W gear oil.

well... crankshaft was just removed cleaned and the tolerance was still within standard. new rod and main bearings, rear main seal, new gaskets, new cap and rotor, like-new cylinder head, new belts, cleaned pulleys, new battery cables, new plugs, emissions delete. i think the engine is is good shape for the next eh 250,000 miles or so also almost new block still has the factory hone marks in cylinders, rods, pistons, alternator, waterpump, oilpump and cover,
and the oil pan, cylinder head, pump covers and most major parts were given a diesel bath and scrubbed totally deposit free this baby should run like a dream

ok 90W in diff and 10w-30 in the tranny got it. thanks guys
