ok used the search and read for hours. and I dont know which one to use. whats better or what has work more better for the money and simple install distributor. my other luv project is on hold due to the fact my daily driver is starting to have problems. so I just ordered a weber 32/36 and now looking in to a new e-distributor, 85 I mark electro distributor, or the pertronix ignition. I was leaning more torwards the Imark dis. but still unsure. would I still need some thing like the MSD box. any help would be great, thanks.

No you would not need an external box (msd) as the electronics are all in the dist. I have an 84 up dist. in my truck and it should be the very first change people do to there trucks as the idle is dead smooth and the motor runs noticeably better. All you need to remember to get the best benefit from your dist. is to set the plugs to the later specs.

Try this. if the link doesn't come up....go to search and type in MALLORY DIST. Scroll down until you see the Cardone information by Fullaluv. viewtopic.php?f=5&t=13577. I have one from and '81 Luv in mine. I like the electronic ignition alot better.

I gave up on E Dizzy ordered used one online with the external box and never got it to work... Little fumed about that one paid about $100! Any way went back to stock and threw down for the MSD box. Mainly becuases could not find any more donars out here. But after hooking up MSD box even with the points still in is night and day... Just food for thought!

No meaning to jump the topic with someone else but hey OX you couldn't order a Cardone or even go with a pertronix setup? Just curious. I guess if you like the setup you have then I would stay with it.

Could. I actually called Petronix guy he gave me part # I will order eventually but someone very wise here told me to just run it the 6A MSD box actually dumbs down the juice enough that the points do not even matter. Im telling you the second i hooked that thing up my truck was a whole new toy again! I will eventually do it but the MSD box works for ME! I was jsut burnt that i couldnt get the electric dizzy/mod box to work... that i ordered the MSD...

Good Luck

I got the Pertronix setup and i cannot even begin to describe how simple it was to install. It gave me flawless starting. It was $100 well spent in my opinion.

yep ordered my e-dizzy on ebay hope its the right one it says it fits a 85 I-mark will see should get here mon or tues. but ya the best thing I got for my truck was the weber. notice a big differance. just trying to dial it in. wasnt idling right. but gotting at 600-900rpms just waiting on the dizzy to readjust timing and so forworth. hope I dont need to rejet it. but its been running great. and burning fuel like crazy 8O . but it was worth the money.

yes that will work... should be the internally regulated type so only 2 wires to hook up. 1 + and 1 - to the coil... it is what i have in mine and works great

The electronic Distributor, Pertronix and the MSD do the same thing but each does it different. They all improve your spark. The electronic does increase your spark and gets rid of your points completely and having to set them, also if you got other problems with your stock distributor like sticky vacuum plate or mech advance, a new distributor will cure this. Protronix does the same but uses your own distributor so any problems other than bad points or weak park will continue. And MSD uses a capasitor to increase the spark far more than a protronix or an electronic distributor can. Plus it has a mutiply spark otion that fires muti times at idle and many times this really cleans up an idle especially if it has a lot of miles and burns a little oil. Gas mileage goes up sometimes a little sometimes a lot. If your points are in bad shape, the MSD still works fine as long as the points still open and close and can make a weak spark. My points were burt and did not run well until I hooked up the MSD. Now any problems with your distributor are still there except a weak spark. IMO The very best set up would be a new/rebuilt points or electronic distributor with an MSD, but this also the most expensive set up. If your distributor is in good shape than the protronix is the best set up for the price. The better set up but double the money is the MSD. Better than that would a protronix with an MSD. If your distributor is messed up than the electronic dist. is the best set up for the least amount of money, or a rebuilt points set up with and MSD would be a better set up but more expesive, and the very best would be MSD with electronic dist. but again a lot more money. I like points with an MSD becuase if you points take a dump it still runs. The points would have to fall apart for the MSD not to work and if you MSD stops working you can run a 2 jumper wires and your back on the road. Now if your Protronix or electronic dist. takes a dump, your dead in the water unles you have spare parts. It's a hard choices but any way you go you should see some positive results. Good luck.
