Almost sounds like you have different axle ratios in the front and the rear.

sounds like someone changed the rearend at some point. if the front and rear dont have matching gear ratios then it will bind up. i say the rear cause it isnt likely that the front went out, so to speak, but, you should still count the gears on the front end and try and find a rear to match

This may be a real easy fix-do you have the same size tires front and back? If not the different diameters act the same as different gear ratios- tires must be the same or the driveline will bind. If the tires are the same let us know here, I think I have a method to check each gear ratio without tearing anything apart.
You say you are new to 4wd, so if this bucking is only occuring during turning on a hard surface this is normal, going straight is not.

i talk to a guy at my work and he said the reason why it was still locked in the front was that i needed to drive it in reverse about 20 feet to unlock them and i tried it and it worked. correct me if i am wrong but the reason why it bucks is that the fronts are churning slower than the rear. now all i think that it could be is that some one changed the rear and took the rear out of a 2 wheel drive. other than that do you think that i will be fine to drive it i 2 wheel. also i was wondering how do i check the fluid level in the trany, i cant find the dip stick if there is one.

there isnt a dipstick if you have a manual trans.

under the truck on what if i remember correctly is the driver side, there is a small plug you can open near the top to check the level of MOTOR OIL.

i would change it out and get if over with...

it should be just fine to drive it in 2wd until you find out the right gears, i had this same dilema with an old f150 i had. the rear tried to run over the front is kinda what it felt like. took the front diff cover off counted the gears then found the right rearend for it.

you could also mark the drive shaft, and mark a spot on the tire and turn the tire or the driveshaft{i cant remember which way it works} and count how may times the driveshaft turns during 1 rotation of the tire, that will give you a pretty good idea of what ratio you have. of course you will have to get the truck off the ground to do it this way{after thought}

that probably has to do with the rear end being wrong for the truck. speaking from experience

also an off topic i am thinking of doing a body lift to get bigger tires. i am not looking for road clearance just an off road look. what do you think

just like you said. take the nut out and check to see if you can feel it with your finger. if you cant add some till you can, but also since you under there itmight be a good idea to change it out. for a 30+ y/o truck the trany's and transfer cases often get over looked at fluid change time, if i remember correctly it only uses 30 wt motor oil. but dont take my word for it as i am not 100% sure.

as for body lifts i hate them, but there aint much choice for these trucks, nobody makes a suspension lift for them.

If you for sure have the same size tires front and back then you need to check the ratios of the differentials. Your truck came with 4.10's, the only options for the front were 4.56 and considering the amount of work to change it it's most likely the rear that is different. Options for the rear were 3.42, 3.73, 3.90(extremely rare) & 4.56.
Get both front and rear tires on the right side off the ground, tranny in neutral. Lock both front hubs. Crawl under the truck & mark the driveshafts and each tire with something like chalk. Then rotate each driveshaft- counting the driveshaft revolutions- until you get exactly one tire revolution. A stock 4.10 ratio will give just barely over 4 driveshaft revolutions per tire revolution, a 4.56 about 4-1/2, a 3.73 about 3-3/4 & a 3.42 about 3-1/2. Report back what you find.

Should be on the driver's side about 1/2 to 2/3 up. It's the same size as the drain plug in the bottom on mine, 15/16 fits , which should convert to 23mm? If the 4spds are like the 5spds there is a second smaller plug to drain the sump of the transfer case, but you fill both from the one place on the side. Make sure to use engine oil only, whatever you use in the engine should be fine, fill until it runs out.
