I was rooting around one of the local scrap yards and found a 95 pu'p that had a G200 and the electronic ignition, but its not setup like the information page states the ignitor module was built into the distributor, and the wires running from it were a black one and a black w/ an orange stripe and at the end of the wires was a plug were it is divided and then run up to the coil, well since the distributor was in a G200 i figured that I would be able to make it work. I looked at were the plugs ran to and kept a mental note of the wire color scheme.

I'll break it down in steps for anyone who might be interested in this at all...

-Swap out the distributors, keeping in mind the position of the old one,
-Splice the black wire w/ red stripe and the solid black wire together
-Remove the ballast resistor, run the black wire w/ yellow stripe directly to the coil
-Keep the black wire w/ blue stripe in place
-Spliced the black wire w/ orange stripe into an extra peice of wire since it won't reach and hook that to the posative side of the coil
-regap plugs to .040 and use either the pu'p's coil or find another one that has a high enough output to run an electronic ignition

Once i had all of this done the truck fired right up and the test drive proved a definate gain in acceleration, and response(no more getting up a half an hour early in the morning just so i can get my truck started and not be late)...

Next up getting my damn carb to work right

thats just my take on the whole thing, and I'de like to thank everyone who has been here giving me advice on what to get and the how too's of whats supposed to be and Ben for making this site... Ben you rock!

This is a bit late, but here's a pretty good thread with this upgrade also. Includes info on factory cap/rotor and dizzy, plus Pertronix tips from '79Luvr. Good stuff...

Makes a big difference, doesn't it? :ebiggrin

heck yes it does, i felt a definate power increase its truely amazing how something so simple as an electronic ignition can make such a huge difference, im no longer afraid my truck wont start now its just a matter of the carb working right.. my hitachi dont work right, and the weber i got is missing parts and either i get too much gas and it runs shitty or i get way to much gas and i can barely drive it, and the truck gets about 15mpg highway 8O but anyway yeah ill check out that info...

Same dist i have been running for close to two years and i recommend it as the primary and first mod to do on our trucks.

I can go out and 10 below pump the throttle twice (to set choke) and bump the ign. and starts instantly.

I also used the coil that came with the dist.and i used a new set of Pup plugs when i tuned the motor after a head gasket repair and my 4X4 25mpg+ with the stock carb.

I've posted how to put a Pertronix in a 72-75, and I have one in my 72. But Pertronix already makes a kit for 74-75 distributors so get one and have at it.
